‘Mosaic’: New Trailer For HBO Interactive Story From Steven Soderbergh Released
  |  @   |

HBO has released a new trailer for Mosaic, an ambitious project from Ocean’s Eleven and Traffic director Steven Soderbergh and former Universal chairman and CEO Casey Silver, along with writer Ed Solomon.

Mosaic is an interactive story in which you can make choices to follow the story from different perspectives. It’s both the name of an app, which launched this week and is where you can choose different paths, and also the name of a six-part limited series airing on HBO in January. The limited series will be Soderbergh’s version of the story, and people will be able to compare how their experiences with the app played out compared to Soderbergh’s version. The cast includes Sharon Stone, Garrett Hedlund, Frederick Weller, Beau Bridges, Paul Reubens, Jennifer Ferrin, Devin Ratray, Michael Cerveris, James Ransone, Jeremy Bobb, and Maya Kazan.

You can read the full details in the press release, and watch the trailer and a cast interview video below.

Movie Review: The Descendants

The Descendants
Directed by Alexander Payne
Starring George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, Amara Miller, Nick Krause, Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard, Judy Greer, Barbara L. Souther and Robert Forster
Release Date: November 16, 2011

Director Alexander Payne‘s films aren’t fashioned with any hidden aims or methods. Slowly revealing to audiences instances that would provide instant revelation isn’t his main concern. He understands the importance of a matter and what the most essential points are to it. In his newest feature, The Descendants, which Payne and screenwriter Nat Faxon adapted from Kaui Hart Hemmings’ 2007 novel, the most essential point is capturing the many facets of humanity. Payne admires human behavior and the incredible yet emotionally painstaking adventures it provides for individuals to travel.

Video: Watch ‘The Fabulous Baker Boys’
  |  @   |

Hulu now has The Fabulous Baker Boys online to watch for free. You can also watch it here below.

While this 1989 film is far from a geek pick, I thought I’d link it because it’s actually a really good movie and I’m pretty much a sucker for all ’80s movies. It stars real-life brothers Beau Bridges and Jeff Bridges as two brothers who make their living in the Seattle area as a hotel piano lounge act known as The Fabulous Baker Boys. Frank (Beau Bridges) handles the management end of the business, while his brooding playboy younger brother Jack (Jeff Bridges) is really the talent of the show. Unfortunately for the duo, while they’ve managed to make a living off of songs like “Feelings” for decades, it seems piano lounge music is dying out, leaving them with fewer gigs. So, Frank gets the idea to hire a female singer to update their act. Enter Susie Diamond (Michelle Pfeiffer), a downtrodden yet beautiful young woman, who inadvertently causes tension between the brothers, putting the future of The Fabulous Baker Boys in jeopardy.

If you can get passed the lounge music — and trust me, if of all people I CAN, then it shouldn’t be a problem for you — then you’ll really enjoy this film. Admittedly, the first 45 minutes has little dialogue and focuses many on the aforementioned lounge music, but trust me, after that, it’s like a whole new movie begins. We finally get some insight into Jack’s personality and years’ worth of familial issues surface. And, you might remember the iconic images of Michelle Pfeiffer in a sexy red dress singing atop a piano — once you get to this scene, the film truly takes off.
