Richard Linklater‘s Boyhood was an ambitious filmmaking project that took 12 years to complete. In it, audiences saw the life of one person, played by the same actor, through various stages of his life. Now, he is going to up that with a film adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical Merrily We Roll Along, based on the 1934 play of the same name by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.
According to new reports, the film adaptation will reportedly take 20 years to complete. An interesting take as it might be a reflection of the current state of the entertainment industry and how things could change for the better (or worse) when the film is completed and is released. More on who will appear in the film below.
Politics can be a mean game no matter how big or small the arena. Take Netflix’s The Politician from Ryan Murphy, who dramatizes the lengths of which a very ambitious high school student (Ben Platt) goes through to run a perfect campaign to become president of the Associated Student Body. Of course, since this is a project from the man who has given us Glee, American Horror Story, and so much more, much of what we will see from the dark comedy will take place in a heightened sense of reality.
However, because we know how ruthless politics can be, there is a certain degree of believability. Check out the trailer here below.
In Pitch Perfect 2, the Barden Bellas are graduating, and most of them have to come to the realization that there is life beyond collegiate a cappella competitions. The film has such a strong female presence, that the male cast are the supporting players. It’s a nice change of pace. Skylar Astin plays Jesse, another a cappella singer and Beca’s (Anna Kendrick) boyfriend, while Ben Platt plays Jesse’s best friend and Emily’s (Hailee Steinfeld) love interest.
We were recently invited to the film’s press conference where we talked about what it was like to work with Elizabeth Banks (who makes her directorial debut), improving, the evolution of their characters, some hilarious outtakes, and more.
