Last month we found out that Billy Boyd, who starred as Pippin in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and sang a memorable song in the third movie, The Return of the King, would be singing the end credits song for the final movie in Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
The song is titled “The Last Goodbye,” and not only can you listen to it right now but there’s an official video for it as well you can watch below. The video is all about giving fans the warm fuzzies, as footage of Boyd singing is mixed with clips from both trilogies and behind the scenes footage of the actors having a merry old time on the set.
There’s a wealth of memorable moments to be found within Peter Jackson’s massive Lord of the Rings trilogy. One of these moments comes in the third and final movie, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, when hobbit Pippin (Billy Boyd) is ordered to sing a song for the Steward of Gondor, Denethor (John Noble), to whom he volunteered his service. As Pippin sings his sad song, titled “The Edge of Night,” Denethor feasts away carelessly while his son Faramir (David Wenham) and his soldiers, who were sent into an impossible battle by the Steward, are met with waves of orcish arrows.
If you too are fond of this scene and Pippin’s song, depressing as it is, there’s some good news to be had today. It’s been announced that Billy Boyd will be semi-returning to Middle-earth by recording the end credits song for the third and final movie in The Hobbit trilogy, titled The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

This year marks the tenth anniversary since The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring took the global box office by storm (one month after the first Harry Potter movie debuted). To celebrate that milestone, the British film magazine Empire is dedicating a chunk of its December issue to paying tribute to the LOTR movies in typical Empire style.
The issue will spotlight a reunion of the four actors who played the brave hobbits of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s fantasy epic – Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee), Dominic Monaghan (Merry), and Billy Boyd (Pippin). To promote the issue, Empire has put together a short video preview of the hobbit reunion which you can watch here below, as well as an image from the reunion.
