Want To See Lando Calrissian In Star Wars IV? Billy Dee Williams Wants You To Tell Disney!

The last several months have been up and down with movie rumors for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams. Among the most popular and seemingly solid rumors, is that several key cast members from the Original Trilogy will be reappearing in some scope. These, of course, are Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, and Harrison Ford as Han Solo. But what about everyone’s favorite gambling scoundrel, Lando Calrissian, as played by Billy Dee Williams?

According to a Facebook message, Billy Dee Williams states that he has not up till now been contacted by anyone. In the recent flurry of rumors, it was said that George Lucas had met with Hamill, Fisher, Ford, and Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine) over several lunch meetings in 2012 to chew over the Sequel Trilogy. Williams, it seems, was not a part of these meetings, which would indicate that there may be no plans to have Lando even make a cameo in the upcoming trilogy.

In response, Billy Dee Williams has called upon his fans to tell Disney and Lucasfilm if they would like to see Lando return. Here’s the full message:

Lando Calrissian

The last major development we have heard for anything concerning Star Wars: Episode VII was that producer Frank Marshall, husband of LucasFilm’s President Kathleen Kennedy, said the search for directors has narrowed down to a few names. We’ve already heard other directors deflect the question by saying they wish the person that directs it some luck. Actors involved in the original franchise, however, have all expressed an interest reprising their roles in Episode VII.

Toy Story 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt is currently working on the script for a brand new trilogy. Reports are that Episode VII will be an original story; whether or not that means we will see new characters or the same characters in a different setting remains to be seen. But original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford have expressed interest in reprising their roles.

Lando Calrissian - Han Solo

Over the years, the Lando Calrissian character has become a favorite amongst strong>Star Wars fans, but he didn’t start out that way. When Lando first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, we learned he was an old friend of Han Solo’s — a scoundrel, a gambler, and a player, much like Han himself — and that the duo didn’t part ways on the best of terms. When the old friends reunite in Cloud City, it seems like bygones are bygones, that is, until Lando gives up Han and his companions to Darth Vader, who had invaded the city with his imperial troops.

Now, everyone loves Han Solo, so you can imagine the discontent amongst fans when Lando betrayed Han, and you might also be able to imagine what actor Billy Dee Williams, who played Lando in the film, had to deal with in real life during fan encounters. Yeah, people were pissed.

In a recent video interview with Wired magazine, Williams recounts how people would point their fingers and scold him, stating, “You betrayed Han!” But, as we now know, Lando didn’t have a choice and, c’mon, he was only trying to help! Check out the video interview here below where Williams explains how the situation was out of his hands. He had to turn over Han to Vader (though, giving Han to that bounty hunter was not part of the deal!).
