The saga of Sony’s Spider-Man-less Universe spinoffs continues. The series of spinoffs would give Spider-Man supporting characters their own cinematic universe, but without the prominent webslinger. It’s not clear how that would work, but the studio believes that they could create a successful franchise based on these characters. The upcoming Venomfilm directed by Ruben Fleischer, a dark take on the anti-hero, would be the first. Silver And Black was to be the second. However, new reports are saying that the film has been taken off Sony’s release schedule. More on the story below.
Sony’s Spider-Man spinoffs are progressing rather quickly. Last week came news that Ruben Fleischer would be directing Tom Hardy in a Venom spinoff. Now the studio has turned their attention to developing their Black Cat and Silver Sable spinoff.
There is confirmation that Love & Basketball-director Gina Prince-Bythewood will direct the film about two of Spidey’s female supporting heroes, which will now be called Silver and Black. More on the story below.
With the Venom spinoff back in development, Sony is looking to further expand on their Spider-Man cinematic universe. Venom is currently scheduled for an October 2018 release, with Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) writing the script. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will act as producers.
Now Sony will expand on this new universe they are creating and have found a new writer to pen a script centered on female characters Silver Sable and the Black Cat. According to new reports, Thor: Ragnarok scribe Christopher Yost has been tapped to write the script. More on the story below.
