D23 Expo 2019: ‘Black Widow’ Footage Reveals David Harbour As Red Guardian

After making her debut in 2010’s Iron Man 2, Scarlett Johansson‘s Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow finally makes her standalone film debut in Black Widow. Taking place after the events of Captain America: Civil War, the long-awaited film sees Natasha returning home and being met with a very unfriendly welcome. However, there is much more to it than that, as her return home also marks a family reunion of sorts.

While the cast was not on hand at the D23 Expo this weekend, Marvel Studios did share some interesting footage from the film. More on all of that here below.

SDCC 2019: ‘Black Widow’ Brings More Spy Action To The Marvel Fold

Marvel Studios’ Black Widow may have been in production for only 30 days, but that stop them from showing off some footage to San Diego Comic-Con attendees today. Scarlett Johansson and director Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome, Lore) stopped by the Con to tell everyone there how the production was going, and announced that it would be the first new Marvel film of 2020.

Marvel Studio Paydays and The Future Of The MCU As We Kind Of Sort Of Know It

Okay, it is pretty safe to say that Avengers: Endgame is the definitive end for some characters. So for the sake of not revealing spoilers, we won’t say who these characters are until after the jump. But for those who want to know or at least have an idea of which characters will appear again – because they have sequels – we kind of have a small tiny glimpse of what is to come.

For instance, we know that Marvel Studios is working on sequels for Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Lucrecia Martel Turned Down ‘Black Widow’ Because Marvel Told Her They Would Handle Action Scenes

This week, a new study showed that female-led films have outperformed male films at the box office, proving that there are audiences who are interested in seeing female characters at the lead. The number of female directors taking the helm of films has increased as well, with many of them going behind the camera for a variety of genres. However, it looks like there are some studios who do not have faith in some female directors.

Zama director Lucrecia Martel, who was among the frontrunners to direct the Black Widow currently being developed, reveals why she turned down Marvel Studios’ long-awaited standalone film. In a new interview, she says she turned down the project because she learned that she would not be overseeing the action scenes. More on the report, below.
