TV has evolved to exciting heights with the arrival and ever-thriving world of no-restriction shows. Shows that are on pay cable channels and can be as gritty and realistic as necessary to tell their stories, often times getting away with more than most movies can even get away with.

We the TV-viewing audience are in love with these types of shows, and though there are many great options out there on various channels, no one does them quite like HBO.

They’ve been in the original programming game since the ’70s (mainly with comedy shows and documentaries at first, which they still do a lot of today as well) but started the current hour-long drama craze with shows like Oz and The Sopranos, continued it with titles like Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Rome, and Carnivale, and keep it alive and strong today with True Blood, Game of Thrones, and of course, Boardwalk Empire.

Watch Now: ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Season 2 Teaser Trailer
  |  @   |

The first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones came and went so quickly it almost feels like we’re still waiting for its arrival, meaning the wait for season 2 will be a long and painful one. But thankfully for those of us who look to the cable network’s programming to find the best shows on TV, that’s not the only series they have. Their Southern Gothic vampire drama, True Blood, started back up last night to the delight of many, and the return of their 1920s prohibition drama, Boardwalk Empire, sits in the not–so–distant future.

With shows like this the wait for new seasons to arrive is much less painful, and if HBO added one or two more of this caliber to their lineup (say an American Gods, perhaps) we might just be spoiled rotten year–round.

Speaking of Boardwalk Empire, HBO has unveiled the first teaser trailer for season 2 of the hit show. And as you might have expected, it’s looking to be a wild and intense ride as everyone scrambles to get their pieces into place. You can see the trailer below now!

Geek Discussion: Are You Watching ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Yet?
  |  @   |

The pilot episode of Boardwalk Empire, HBO’s new series set during 1920s prohibition, just premiered this past Sunday, and already the ‘net is abuzz about it.

The show follows Enoch “Nucky” Thompson (Steve Buscemi), a Treasurer and “undisputed ruler of Atlantic City” who at the start of prohibition sees great opportunity to capitalize on the situation and make an awful lot of money. Almost immediately his plans are in motion, with a strong group of people backing him and nothing but profit in view. Naturally, when something like this is taking place, complications are sure to arise…and they do…leaving Nucky to protect what he’s attempting to do and stay on top of the game. Complications aside, Nucky Thompson and his people turn Atlantic City into “The World’s Playground,” a place where laws aren’t always so enforced and one of the few places someone could easily find a drink.
