‘Guardians of the Galaxy #1’ Is Here! Check Out These Preview Pages
  |

Marvel Entertainment is continuing to build the Marvel U for the mainstream and for newer comic book fans by re-introducing us to The Guardians of the Galaxy! We’ve known for a while that Guardians of the Galaxy is to be one of the films in Marvel’s next phase starting with Iron Man 3 this summer and culminating with Avengers 2. If you’re a digital comics reader then you’ve been treated to a couple of free Marvel Infinite books introducing Drax and Rocket Raccoon, two of the Guardians.

Guardians of the Galaxy #1 is now on store shelves and it’s most definitely a story on a cosmic level. Earth has become a pivotal planet in the galactic chess game, but the Guardians have made it off limits so there are sure to be some major battles on the way. To make the transition into this cosmic story a little easier, writer Brian Michael Bendis has brought Iron Man into the team so there’s at least one familiar face — or helmet! Writer Neil Gaiman is coming in for at least one issue later in the run, so that’s sure to add an odd flavor to this series.

To get you geared up for Marvel’s cosmic story, we have some images here below from Guardians of the Galaxy #1!

Comic Review: Guardians Of The Galaxy Infinite #1

Guardians of the Galaxy Infinite #1
Published by Marvel Comics for the Digital App
Written by Brian Michael Bendis

Release date: March 6, 2013
Price: FREE

Marvel announced a new type of digital comic called Infinite last year with a few books that didn’t release on a regular basis. They were sold separately in the Marvel Comics App or came packaged with other digital books. They were promoted as the future of digital comics and in execution the format truly took advantage of reading a comic book on a tablet or similar device. The feel was cinematic but the core experience was still that of a comic book. Also, when reading these books you weren’t constantly flipping the tablet or phone from portrait to horizontal depending on the panel. Those original stories were just teasers to regular comics, but they did show a glimmer of something that could be cool. Then, there was nothing.

Finally now we get a new Infinite book featuring The Guardians of the Galaxy called Guardians of the Galaxy Infinite.

Comic Review: Ultimate Spider-Man, Vol. 2 #20

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #20
Story by Brian Michael Bendis

Marvel Comics
Release Date: February 6, 2013
Cover Price: $3.99

Let us not forget who our senior ranking Spider-Man is, folks. It’s not the Superior one, it’s not even Kaine-turned-Scarlet, it’s good old Miles Morales, who has the most issues over the greatest period of time under his belt.

Part of what is making Miles so enjoyable is his individuality as a person and with his family issues colliding head-on with the history of Peter Parker. It’s just as fun to read Miles talk to Aunt May as it is to read Miles talking to Ganke, and that’s the magic touch that makes Ultimate Spider-Man the best Spider-Man running. Don’t get me wrong, the exact same thing is happening in Superior Spider-Man, but the lead character in that book is usurping the Parker Legacy while Miles is honoring it. It makes all the difference in the world.

Part of the fun of the original Ultimate Spider-Man run was to see how the characters would change from their 616-Universe counterparts. This was pre-New 52 and Marvel NOW!, so often the tease that would keep me coming back for those first 100 issues was “What’s Scorpion going to be like in this universe?” I choose Scorpion purposefully because the second volume Ultimate Spider-Man also re-imagined that character once the Volume One, Parker Ultimate years revealed Scorpion to be a Peter clone. Miles had to deal with a Mexican Warlord Scorpion while contemplating his relationship to his uncle. Both re-imaginings worked for their respective Spider-Men, and it’s staggering to see that this slight retconning still draws the audience.
