For those who were worried, yes, Super Troopers 2 is still happening. In fact, Broken Lizard offered an update on where things currently stand this week.
They’ve confirmed that post-production on the movie has officially been completed, which is the big news of course. They also dive into specifics on the work that was done to wrap everything up, which will be worth reading for anyone interested in the filmmaking process, and touch on what the next step is before fans will get to actually see Super Troopers 2.
Back in March Broken Lizard, the group behind movies like Super Troopers, Club Dread, and Beerfest, launched an Indiegogo campaign for the long-awaited Super Troopers 2 with hopes of making the movie this past summer if the campaign was a success.
Well, here’s a quick update for you fans of the original excited about a sequel. The campaign was a massive success, easily reaching and surpassing its $2 million goal and soaring past $4 million by the time it was all said and done, but filming didn’t happen quite as soon as originally hoped. Instead of making the movie this past summer things got pushed back a bit to this fall, and now—almost 15 YEARS since the original was first released—filming has officially begun on the sequel.
Last we heard, the long-awaited sequel to Broken Lizard’s cult comedy hit Super Trooperswas the next movie for the comedy group with hopes of filming that summer. At the time the script was written and turned in, and a studio was in place for distribution. All that was left to do was to secure financing. That was just about a year ago now.
Unfortunately securing that financing appears to have been more difficult than anticipated. So naturally the Broken Lizard gents are looking where everyone looks these days when securing financing proves difficult: the fans. Thanks to the crowdfunding boom, projects like Super Troopers 2 still have a chance to be made…though much help is needed. That’s where you come in.
