Catwoman

Warner Home Video, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros Animation announced details on their upcoming DC Animation panel at next month’s New York Comic-Con, as well as releasing the first image from the Catwoman short feature on the Batman: Year One DVD and Blu-ray releasing on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

First, this animation panel at NYCC looks amazing. The panel will be an hour long on Friday, October 14, and will take place from 3-4pm. Scheduled to appear on the panel are legendary casting director Andrea Romano, DCU executive producer Bruce Timm, and the voice of Batman himself Kevin Conroy. The announcement hints at more possible guests for the panel, as well. And if one person could be suspected of showing up, it would be Eliza Dushku, the voice of Catwoman in both the 15-minute animated feature that this panel will be debuting and Batman: Year One, but that’s purely speculation on my part. In addition, the panel guests will be available for autograph signings directly after the panel.

All-Star Superman Blu-ray DVDBy Frank Ramblings

All-Star Superman
Limited Edition Blu-ray | Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack | 2-Disc DVD | DVD
Directed by Sam Liu
Starring James Denton, Christina Hendricks, Anthony LaPaglia, Ed Asner, Alexis Denisof
Warner Home Video
Release date: February 22, 2011

Perhaps the most beloved Superman story of all time, Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely‘s All-Star Superman amazed fans as it hit comic racks from 2005 to 2008. Many readers who never considered themselves fans of the character agree that Morrison’s tale of the most powerful hero who ever lived completely changed their view of the Man of Steel. So when it was announced that this instant classic would be the basis for the tenth entry in Warner Premiere and DC Comics’ collection of animated films, many were understandably nervous. The result, however, was something pretty amazing.

The screenplay written by the legendary Dwayne McDuffie stays quite faithful to Morrison’s original story. After a series of events set into motion by Lex Luthor, Superman finds himself more powerful than ever — but there’s a catch. His body is slowly breaking down and his death is imminent. With this in mind, he wastes no time making his remaining time on Earth count for something. His adventures include a romantic birthday celebration for Lois Lane, a special visit to his hometown of Smallville, and run-ins with classic and original villains both on Earth and in space.

All-Star Superman Blu-ray DVDA lot of comic fans have been looking forward to the next DC Universe Animated Feature, All-Star Superman, and now they have a date to look forward to. It was announced that the DVD and Blu-ray will be released on February 22, 2011. We also got a look at the cover which doesn’t look like it was actually done by Frank Quietly, artist of the comic series the movie is based on, but it does look very similar to his style.

See the cover art here at right.

All-Star Superman is as I said, based on the comic of the same name, written by Grant Morrison with art by Quietly. The story follows a dying Superman as he faces his last days and has one last battle with Lex Luthor. The comic is one of the best series of the last few years, and it will be interesting to see how the unique story is translated into a 70-minute movie.

The movie is executive produced by Bruce Timm (mastermind of the DC animated universe), directed by Sam Liu (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) and written by Dwayne McDuffie (also Crisis on Two Earths, as well as a bunch of Justice League Unlimited episodes). The movie features James Denton as Superman, Christina Hendricks as Lois Lane, and Anthony LaPaglia as Lex Luther.

Green Lantern: The Animated Series

We’ve known that Green Lantern: The Animated Series was coming to Cartoon Network for a little while, and attendees at the 2010 New York Comic-COn got their first look at the series this weekend. Sadly, there wasn’t any actual footage shown, but there was plenty of concept art shown (which you can view here below), as well as a a 20-second test clip of animation.

The show will be completely animated by CG (think The Clone Wars series) and Hal Jordan and Kilowog will be the main stars of the show. The good news is that Bruce Timm will be one of the showrunners, and he’s always produced consistently good shows, so there’s no reason to think this will be any different.

Details that emerged from the panel include that the show will run for at least 26 episodes, with the first 13 episodes already planned out. The main villains of the show will be the Red Lanterns, and it sounds like the other colored Lanterns will show up at some point. Everyone may assume that Sinestro would be the ideal villain for the series, but he actually won’t be showing up, at least for the first 13 episodes, although he will be getting built up over the course of the series for his eventual reveal, and they do have plans to reveal him at some point.

Watch Now: ‘All Star Superman’ Animated Trailer

All Star SupermanMTV’s Splash Page has brought unto the world a gift from DC Entertainment‘s animated department, the trailer for the adaptation to Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely‘s All Star Superman.

Watch it here below!

As previously reported, longtime DCAU writer Dwayne McDuffie will be heading up the script, and he will once again be working with Bruce Timm and Crisis on Two Earths director Sam Liu.

Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely are easily one of my favorite creative teams, and All Star Superman is high on my list of top comics of all time, so, while I am immensely excited for this project, I also want very little about the story and style to change, but if the trailer is any indication of what’s to happen in this animated feature, I will be let down. The animation lightly mimics Quitely’s art, which is fine. The amount of detail that goes into Frank Quitely’s art is nearly impossible to adapt into animation, but it’s close on a surface level.
