Abigail Williams is a black metal band originally from Phoenix, Arizona, but now operating out of Los Angeles. They take their name from one of the initial accusers in the Salem witch trials of 1692, which led to the arrest and imprisonment of more than 150 accused witches. The band’s sound started out as an epic sort of symphonic black metal in the vein of Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir, but over the years they’ve steered more and more toward a traditional Nordic black metal aesthetic.
This week’s edition of Black Metal Friday features the epic track “Beyond The Veil” from Abigail Williams 2012 offering Becoming. Check it out here below.
There must be something in the water in Chicago that is causing it to be America’s new heavy metal capital. The list of insanely great bands hailing from the windy city is as long as your arm, and growing seemingly by the minute. At the forefront of that movement is a doomy, post-metal band that call themselves The Atlas Moth. Their sound manages to be both ethereal and crushingly heavy, while always maintaining an element of (dare I say it?) beauty.
North Carolina sludge/doom metal institution Corrosion of Conformity has just premiered the official video for “On Your Way” from the album IX.
Watch the video for “On Your Way” here below.
IX is, you guessed it, the band’s ninth studio album and was released to overwhelming praise back in June on Candlelight Records. CoC are currently gearing up for a Fall U.S. tour swing supporting GWAR.
British doom metal legends Orange Goblin are gearing up for the release of their eighth studio album, Back From the Abyss, by streaming the first single “The Devil’s Whip.”
The song is a frantic uptempo nod to classic speed metal in the vein of Motorhead. Back From the Abyss is the follow-up to 2012’s A Eulogy for the Damned, the band’s most successful album in their 19-year career. The album will be available via Candlelight Records on October 7th and both iTunes and Amazon will be accepting pre-orders starting August 26, 2014.
