One More Show Dies Before Its Time As SyFy Cancels ‘Caprica’
  |  @   |

Today has brought news from a variety of sources that the SyFy Channel has canceled its low-rated but very excellent (in this humble viewer’s opinion) series Caprica.

Speaking about the cancellation, Mark Stern, Executive Vice-President of Original Programming said, “We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series, Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.” The show will stop running new episodes as of this week’s (October 26th, 2010) episode, with the remaining five episodes of the season to run at some point early next year.

Reminder: ‘Caprica’ Returns To Syfy Tonight
  |

Syfy’s cylontastic hour-long drama Caprica returns to the network tonight to finish out the second half of its season, which is said to be filled with multiple robot-sentient Zoe Graystones and more screen time for James Marsters‘ character Barnabas Greeley.

‘Caprica’ Returning To SyFy Early, Oct. 5 Premiere
  |

Fans of the Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica no longer have to wait until January 2011 for new episodes, according to the SyFy Channel.

The network announced that the show’s 1.5 season premiere will now air October 5 at 10 PM EST following the premiere of Stargate Universe. Sanctuary, which was originally intended for this time slot, has been bumped back to October 15 — a Friday.

For the majority of Caprica fans (e.g., people who are reading this article) the new time slot gives them back their Friday nights, but who knows how it’ll affect DVR and TiVo numbers. One thing that may hurt the show on a Tuesday may be the non-geek crowd that perhaps watched the show because nothing else compared to it on a Friday night.

Time will tell, but I’ve heard there are multiple Zoe Greystones for the last half of the season, so I can’t imagine ratings would dip.

Check out a clip of the upcoming episodes embedded below.

SyFy & Ronald D. Moore Thinking Up More ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Spinoffs
  |  @   |

If you’re not watching the first season run of Caprica, then you are truly missing out on a great new TV show. Folks who want or expect it to be Battlestar Galactica — the beloved series for which Caprica is a prequel to — will for the most part be disappointed, but for anyone open to a new kind of show set in that world, it’s really starting to stand up on its own two man-made legs.

Due to the undying popularity of Galactica and the growing popularity of Caprica, not to mention the spinoff movies that have been produced so far, it comes as no surprise that SyFy has a desire to create yet another spinoff series, and is exploring any possible options that there may be with Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore (and probably David Eick).
