What’s In Store For Fathom Events In 2017 – ‘The Godfather,’ ‘Casablanca,’ & More
  |  @   |

If you are bored by the constant stream of sequels and superhero movies, and yearn to see the classics of yesteryear, Fathom Events is there for you. Thanks to the good people at Fathom, 2016 was a great year at the movies for me and my family. I was able to recreate a monumental moment of my childhood, that of my dad taking a 13-year old me to see From Dusk Till Dawn, by taking my 12-year old son Brandon to see the 20th Anniversary showing. We also took in the 20th anniversary of Space Jam, as well as other classics like Planet of the Apes. My wife and I used Fathom Events for date nights, catching several classics throughout the year, like the 40th Anniversary of Taxi Driver and a near Halloween showing of Kubrick’s The Shining.

So what’s on this year’s schedule?

Valentine’s Day 2016: 9 Love Stories That Won Best Picture
  |  @   |

With it being Valentine’s Day weekend, and all the buzz of the Oscars coming up later this month, it seemed like a perfect time for a COMBO LIST! When most think of Best Picture winners, you think sprawling historical epics like Gone With the Wind (1939), Lawrence of Arabia (1962) or Ben Hur (1959). War is a good place to find Oscar champions as well, such as Patton (1970), Schindler’s List (1993), and Bridge on the River Kwai (1957). But what about love? What about a sweeping romance? With that idea, I’ve scoured the 87 winners of the Best Picture Oscar and found the nine best love stories. Why nine? Because ten is what you were expecting, and with love being the theme, love should be unexpected and spontaneous… and also I could only really think of these 9. Any of these movies would be great to pop open a bottle of wine, dim the lights, and cuddle up with your significant other.

Check out the 9 choices below.

Remake Madness: Short Circuit, Bill & Ted’s … and Casablanca?
  |  @   |

A couple of nostalgia films from my childhood have been in the news this week for their rumored remakes.

First off, we have everyone’s favorite robot friend, Johnny 5, in a remake of the 1986 movie Short Circuit. I have no idea if they will actually go through with this, but they seem to be serious.

Variety has informed us that Dimension has acquired the rights to the film and has hired S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock to write the script; yes, the same two dudes who wrote the original two movies.

Another ’80s movie in the news is 1989’s Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. For a while now, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have talked about possibly re-visiting their characters a couple decades later, but it never really transpired.
