Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars

Last month we saw a teaser trailer for Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars, an upcoming animated movie set in the cinematic universe which began with Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 cult classic, Starship Troopers.

Also related to the ’97 original is some of the cast and crew. Both Casper Van Dien as Johnny Rico and Dina Meyer as Dizzy Flores return for Traitor of Mars, and the screenplay was written by Ed Neumeier (RoboCop), who wrote the original and all the sequels, and also directed the third entry, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder. The cast also includes DeRay Davis (21 Jump Street, G.I. Joe: Retaliation).

Now an official trailer has been released online. You can read more about the movie and check out the new trailer below.

Real Fake History Starship Troopers

Real Fake History returns with its faux-documentary style to analyze the disastrous attempt to defeat the evil insects of Klendathu, in the totally hilarious and awesome action film Starship Troopers, directed by Paul “Showgirls” Verhoeven in 1997. Starship Troopers is fondly remembered because it fully embraced itself for what it was – a tribute to the B-monster movies of the 50s, with updated 90s special effects. It was totally off-the-wall insane, featuring gigantic alien bugs, thousands of war-crazy space soldiers, gory and graphic violence, and of course co-ed showers! It even has the most B-movie cast in B-movie history featuring Casper Van Dien, Jake Busey, and the great Michael Ironside.

The Complete Second Season
DVD
Directed by Mark A. Altman and Robert Meyer Burnett
Starring Tanit Phoenix, Eric Roberts, Steve Railsback
Entertainment One
Release Date: July 16, 2013

The Cinemax series Femme Fatales must be some kind of hit for the pay cable network best known for having a saucier programming line-up than their competition. As the old saying goes, if it’s 1 a.m. in the morning and two big-bosomed lesbians are getting it on then brother you’re probably watching Cinemax. Based partially on a long-running men’s magazine specializing in profiles of actresses and starlets from the B-grade sci-fi, horror, and action flicks going back six decades or more, Femme Fatales is an anthology series designed to appeal to the periodical’s readership. The show features stories of crime, passion, betrayal, murder, and occasionally some truly off-the-wall material that star at least one or two recognizable characters actors or actresses who never quite took hold of that big brass ring but still manage to keep their careers alive and kicking.

The show’s second season ran from May to August of 2012 and now Entertainment One has collected every episode in the new 3-disc DVD set Femme Fatales: The Complete Second Season.

The Pact

The Pact
DIRECTOR: Nicholas McCarthy
WRITER: Nicholas McCarthy
STARRING: Caity Lotz, Casper Van Dien, Haley Hudson, Agnes Bruckner
IFC Midnight
RELEASE DATE: July 6, 2012 (limited); On VOD now

Ghost stories, tales of the things that go bump in the night, and supernatural thrillers in general will always be popular. They won’t always be good, but they will always attract eager eyes seeking a thrill.

The trick is doing things right, above all other things, but it’s also important to offer your own fresh and unique style. People love to be scared, and a big part of that is properly using your viewers’ own brains against them. Brutal violence can be horrifying, but it’s the unseen, the worst fears you instantly imagine in your own minds, that can be the most effective.

Having always been a huge fan of such movies, I was excited to check out The Pact, an indie supernatural thrill from director Nicholas McCarthy.
