Chinese New Year: Disneyland’s ‘Happy Lunar New Year Celebration’ Begins

Today begins the Chinese New Year, so from now through Sunday, February 2, 2014, the Disney California Adventure park at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, will be celebrating the Year Of The Horse with some special events.

Since it’s the Year Of The Horse, one of the steeds, Finn, from Disneyland’s own Circle D Ranch will be part of a procession of performers through Paradise Gardens. Also, visitors to the theme park this weekend will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with Finn, who reportedly is very friendly and loves to have his picture taken.

‘The LEGO Movie’ Chinese New Year Greeting (Video)

In honor of Chinese New Year, the folks behind The LEGO Movie have released a new video specifically for this Year Of The Horse. The holiday greeting features main character Emmett, who is voiced by Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy) in the film based on the LEGO line of toys.

The voice cast for The LEGO Movie includes Chris Pratt as the film’s normal LEGO character, Emmett, and Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games) as Lucy, the female lead who believes that Emmett is the one to fulfill the prophecy that says one will stop the tyrant, President Business (Will Ferrell), from taking over the LEGO World. Other voices include Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman.

‘Star Wars’: Darth Vader Celebrates The Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is in full swing today, with lots of celebrating across the land — and across the galaxy, too, as even Star Wars villain Darth Vader is welcoming in this Year of the Horse.

‘Avengers’-Themed Red Envelopes For Chinese New Year

2012’s Year of the Dragon Chinese New Year begins today and runs for 15 days of celebrations in China and in Asian cultures around the world. Part of the celebration includes giving out red envelopes (or ‘ang pow’) filled with money to loved ones.

In conjunction with the holiday, Star Cineplex Sibu is giving out Avengers-themed red envelopes to moviegoers in Asia during the first six days of the Chinese New Year celebration, according to Borneo Post (via Coming Soon).

Check Out Neil Gaiman’s Wobbly Dragon In Honor Of Chinese New Year

Today marks the beginning of Chinese New Year, the 15-day celebration in Asian cultures filled with gift-giving, family reunions, festivals, fireworks, and wishes of good luck and prosperity in the coming year.

In honor of 2012 being the Year Of The Dragon, author Neil Gaiman sent out a message to his Chinese friends with a drawing of what he says is a “wobbly dragon.”

I just drew a wobbly dragon for my Chinese friends. He’s based on a picture I saw of an ancient dragon who had three toes but was still Chinese…

I don’t know if anyone’s going to be able to see this photo posted here, in China. Last time I was there, this blog was cut off by the Great Firewall, but I post for it anyone who can: 恭喜发财
