Locke & Key: Alpha Banner

There’s been a bit of a change in regards to the release for the end of quite possibly the best series currently being released, Locke & Key. The final miniseries, which was originally scheduled top run six issues, will now come to an end in five issues. However, don’t think that you’re getting the short end of the stick, as the series will now close in an two-issue miniseries, titled Locke & Key: Alpha. The two issues will come in at 48 pages each, and will see release starting in August, 2013.

If there was ever a band that was destined to live beyond their years of rockin’ and rollin’ all night into a comic book legacy, then it has to be KISS. From almost the beginning of their career they were seen as larger-than-life superheroes, and it was inevitable that Stan Lee from Marvel would open the gates to them entering comic book history – complete with vials of their own blood added to the red ink.

Now, in the 21st century, as the band continues with their new album release Monster and consequent world tour, IDW continues comic book KISStory – and this time claiming new ground. Just like 35 years ago when the individual members released their own solo albums, IDW is releasing “solo comics,” each chapter focusing on one of the individual four-who-are-one.

The first installment of KISS Solo focuses on Gene Simmons, or rather The Demon, in KISS Solo #1: The Demon. Continuing on from previous issues of the IDW KISS line, The Demon finds himself in a city terrorized by potential war. He is intrigued by humanity, a species capable of such wide ranging emotional states that he has never experienced in his existence as one of the four warriors of the Elder.

Release date: April 10, 2013
Price: $3.99

The title The Colonized might not immediately grab your attention, but its subtitle, “Zombies Versus Aliens,” sure will – at least that’s what did it for me. The Colonized #1 kicks off a new four-issue miniseries from IDW, where, you guessed it, it’s a battle between zombies and aliens!

A spaceship carrying friendly aliens on a mission of peace is about to make first contact with what they believe is humankind. The little green men initiate their tracter beam, about to meet and greet an Earthling, only to find that what they’ve pulled in is neither dead nor alive – it’s a zombie!

Down on the surface in the U.S. state of Montana, as a militia of separatists mourns the loss of their leader, the aforementioned alien spacecraft crash-lands nearby, shocking the mourners, who come face-to-face with not only the outer spacemen, but the reanimated body of one of their own!

Letters by Robbie Robbins
Created by Sam Keith & Chris Ryall
IDW Publishing
Release Date: January 9, 2013
Cover Price: $3.99

Sometime in the future, the Earth has become a radioactive wasteland filled with soul-sucking zombies known as Hollows. In response, a privileged set of humans developed supertrees that can house entire cities in the clean, relative safety. The remaining humans? Well, they’re just shit out of luck and out on their own against the Hollows.

Craig Mayerik, a pony-tailed inventor, created a set of wings and crashed them while touring the radioactive ground scouring for supplies. He was rescued from certain death by a group of poor survivors. In the refuge, Craig befriends Lani and learned of the group’s meager existence. He realized that swooping down from the safety of his supertree and scavenging for supplies is practically the same as stealing supplies from the hands of desperate, surviving humans on the ground.
