Two new original scare zones are coming to this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood: Curse of Chucky, based on the upcoming sixth installment in the Child’s Play series, and The Purge: Survive the Night, based on the 2013 Universal film, The Purge.
In the Curse of Chucky scare zone, based on the direct-to-DVD and Blu-ray feature coming out on October 8, 2013, the tiny red-headed doll possessed with the spirit of a notorious serial killer will come to life to shock and horrify guests.
For The Purge: Survive the Night, theme park guests will enter the world of The Purge, where for one night all crime is legal – including murder – and no one is safe. Attendees will then run for their lives while experiencing some of the most memorable and terrorizing sequences from the film.
Universal’s The Purge, starring Ethan Hawke (Sinister, Insidious, Training Day) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), also makes its DVD and Blu-ray debut on October 8, 2013.
Curse Of Chucky made its North American debut at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, Quebec at a sold-out screening on July 31, 2013 with over 800 people in attendance. Following the screening, there was a Q&A with director Don Mancini, as well as the film’s stars Fiona Dourif, Danielle Bisutti, and Chantal Quesnelle. It was announced on Friday that the film won the festival’s Audience Award for Best International Feature.
This direct-to-DVD offering comes to DVD and Blu-ray October 8, 2013. Creator of the Child’s Play horror film franchise, Don Mancini, who wrote every film of the series so far, returns to write and direct this sixth installment, which is being released through Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s Universal 1440 Entertainment. Also coming on October 8 is the Blu-ray and DVD box set for Chucky: The Complete Collection, which contains all 6 Chucky films: Child’s Play, Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, Curse Of Chucky.

In case you had not yet heard, they went ahead and made a sixth installment in the Child’s Play franchise, Curse of Chucky, which tells the tales of a child’s toy companion called a Good Guys doll that becomes possessed by a psychopathic killer known as Chucky.
A reboot of the franchise was in the works for a while, but those plans were put on hold and instead this movie was made. It will bypass a theatrical release and head straight for VOD services on September 24th, and Blu-ray and DVD on October 8th instead. But if you’re a fan of these movies, the most important ingredient, the voice of Brad Dourif as Chucky, is present and accounted for, so who knows! Dourif’s daughter, Fiona Dourif, is even getting involved in the franchise this time around, so it’ll be good ol’ family-friendly fun I’m sure! (Note: It would be super unwise to show your children this movie)
