HVFF: Where Heroes & Villains Feel Like Family
  |  @   |

Between my full time day job, my children (aka the best kids in America), and the lack of extra spending money, I don’t get to go to conventions that often. I go to NYCC, but end up planting myself in a hall that doesn’t clear out after each panel (damn you main stage), furiously writing and posting everything I can for Geeks of Doom. My husband got us VIP tickets for Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Secaucus, NJ this weekend, and I didn’t know what to expect. I knew the event was more focused, targeting a specific fan – lovers of comic books and comic-based shows. Even more specific – fans of The CW’s hit show Arrow, with Gotham, Heroes, The Flash, Comic Book Men, Agent Carter, Legends of Tomorrow, and wrestling mixed in.

NYCC 2015: AMC’s ‘Comic Book Men’ Panel With Kevin Smith
  |  @   |

At New York Comic-Con on Thursday, the Comic Book Men panel hit the Empire Stage with Kevin Smith acting as moderator to panel members Michael Zapcic, Ming Chen, Bryan Johnson, and Walt Flanagan.

They started with a clip that showed the utter coolness of the AMC television show, the self-described “Pawn Stars” of comic books, showcasing such geeky guests as Ernie Hudson selling comics out of an ice-cream truck, Jason Mewes with his adorable baby, Peter Mayhew, Billy Dee Williams, William Shatner, Stan Lee, Adam West, and DMC. Yes, DMC, “Comic books is my whole existence.”

There was just so much in this panel. Check below for more, along with some photos.

Cover by Walter Flanagan and Wayne Jansen
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: January 8, 2014

It is the beginning of end times. Monsters and unspeakable beasts have invaded earth from different dimensions and in response, aliens (of the classic Roswell greys kind) have abducted a man named Alan Ostman and transformed him into a beast himself – formed from a hodgepodge of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, and the Jersey Devil among other creatures. His task? To find and repel this evil which is destroying Earth’s mythical monsters, who are called “cryptids” and are portals to other worlds.

As we join Ostman here, he is getting used to his new position working in an interdimensional and experimental lab that will be used to hunt down his monstrous targets. When the latest capture beast escapes its confines, it kills Ostman’s lab assistant and forces Ostman to flees out into dimensional space. Here, he comes face-to-face with his missing daughter, Sammi, who sits down with him over tea to explain that the end is closer than he thinks.
