With his sizable personal fortune – not to mention the future of his company – hanging in the balance after making a high risk bet on the Chinese yuan, 27-year-old billionaire asset manager Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson) just wants to get a haircut, and for some reason it requires a lengthy car trip across New York. Ensconced within the technologically-advanced interior of his stretch limousine, Eric’s journey is perennially delayed by traffic jams caused by the President’s visit to the city and riots being instigated by anti-capitalist revolutionaries waving dead rats and chanting “a specter is haunting the world – the specter of capitalism.”
If you have already seen previoustrailers for David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis already, then you know the film is the director’s return to daring and pushing the envelope kind of filmmaking. The film also sees Robert Pattinson in a very dark role.
Pattinson fans who expect to be wooed by his sultry voice and deep eyes will probably be disappointed as he plays someone that we haven’t seen him play before.
Admittedly I was never a fan of Robert Pattinson to begin with. For one thing his pasty sparkly complexion ruined the reputation of the cinematic vampire. But after watching the teaser for David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis, I was very interested in seeing how he changed from swooning bloodsucker to eccentric billionaire looking for a simple hair cut. Now two full trailers have shown that he is going to silence all the haters with his dark and twisted performance. Check it out after the jump.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen something like this from David Cronenberg, who has been steering clear of these odd and twisted movies. So directing Cosmopolis is a very welcomed return.
Now that The Twilight Saga is finally almost over (for now, anyway), what’s the fastest way for an actor to extract himself from the sewage-coated shadow of those awful movies?
Well…by doing a David Cronenberg film next, of course.
Twilight star Robert Pattinson is appearing in Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis next, and judging by the very brief and twisted new teaser trailer, it will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen from the actor before.
