Pranks are amazing. So long as you’re not the one who’s being pranked, of course. It’s becoming more and more popular these days to set up pranks as a unique and entertaining form of viral marketing…usually for one of the new horror flicks coming out, such as Carrie or The Last Exorcism and so on.
One recent prank pulled off was for the movie Curse of Chucky (read our review here), the direct-to-video sixth installment in the Child’s Play franchise featuring a killer doll. The prank involves hiding someone dressed as Chucky behind a poster for the movie at a bus stop, and then having them break through and chase terrified strangers down the street with a knife.

Directed by Don Mancini, Curse of Chucky picks up four years after 2004’s Seed of Chucky. Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) mysteriously arrives at the family home of paraplegic Nica (Fiona Dourif) and her mother, Sarah (Chantal Quesnelle).
Writing off the delivery of a creepy Good Guys doll as some sort of weird prank, Sarah tosses Chucky in the garbage. Later that night, Nica hears her mother screaming in pain, only to find her dead from an apparent self-inflicted stab wound as an inanimate Chucky watches from a chair nearby.
Nica, grieving over the gruesome, unexplained suicide of her mother, is visited by her sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) and her family: husband, Ian (Brennan Elliott); daughter, Alice (Summer H. Howell); and live-in nanny, Jill (Maitland McConnell), to help settle their mother’s affairs.
Curse of Chucky is the sixth film in the Child’s Play franchise – a series of horror films featuring Chucky, a demonic doll possessed by the spirit of Charles Lee Ray (Dourif), a serial killer. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, the basic idea is that Chucky is an asshole. He’s a quick-witted, foul-mouthed doll with a little man complex. Here, he is resurrected once again to murder bisexual babysitters, insufferable sisters, and Catholic priests.
The sixth installment in the Child’s Play franchise, Curse Of Chucky went direct to DVD and Blu-ray on October 8, 2013, along with Blu-ray and DVD box set for Chucky: The Complete Collection, which contains all 6 Chucky films: Child’s Play, Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, Curse Of Chucky.
Chucky creator Don Mancini made an appearance today at New York Comic-Con, along with franchise stars Brad Dourif, Danielle Bisutti, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent (the original child, Andy, from Child’s Play), and Jennifer Tilly, at a panel moderated by Ain’t It Cool News founder Harry Knowles discuss the horror film series’ 25th anniversary.
In the new movie, Fiona Dourif stars as a young women who receives a package containing the classic Chucky doll, which, unbeknownst to her, is possessed by the spirit of a serial killer. Brad Dourif, Fiona’s dad (who you’ll know as Wormtongue in the Lord Of The Rings films), has provided the voice for the murderous doll beginning with the 1988 film that started it all, Child’s Play. In Curse Of Chucky, the little red-headed doll is back to play again, and there will be blood!
Everyone’s favorite killer doll is back! And not only is he starring in Curse Of Chucky, the latest installment of his popular Child’s Play franchise, but Chucky is also invading some other horror films.
Check out the videos here below where the foul-mouthed, red-head diminutive killer bursts into movies like Psycho, Sam Raimi’s Drag Me To Hell, and Mama. Brad Dourif, who has provided the voice of Chucky throughout the franchise, returns for these videos as well.
Curse Of Chucky was released this week on DVD and Blu-ray. Also out on Blu-ray and DVD now is the Chucky: The Complete Collection box set, which contains all 6 Chucky films: Child’s Play, Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, Curse Of Chucky.
