Pharrell Williams' "Gust of Wind"

Fan-favorite director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) dropped a preview of one of his next projects via his Twitter feed with a quick preview of the video for Pharrell Williams‘ single “Gust of Wind.”

“Gust of Wind” will be the fourth single of off Williams’ album GIRL. The song features the French electronic duo Daft Punk, who Williams worked with in the past on the hit single “Get Lucky.” Those are Daft Punk’s iconic helmets that Pharrell is approaching in the video.

Wright is a director with a large cult following and it’s good to see him at work after ending his involvement with Marvel’s Ant-Man. I know lots of people are patiently waiting for his next film, and this should serve as something to tide them over. Check out the video below.

Daft Punk album Random Access Memories

Daft Punk‘s album Random Access Memories dropped yesterday. The key word for this album is funk. Disco funk, that is.

There was a lot of teasing for their new album that was 8 years in the making. Pseudo leaks permeated the internet. One leak caused Trace Dominguez from DNews channel to dance in a loop for about a minute. Daft Punk does strange things to people.

Then “Get Lucky” was released unto the radio waves and I swear it was set to play on repeat until the apocalypse came around. But I was okay with it. The jam is *that* good.

The Geeks Of Doom Round Up 18: Eric Calderone and Zero Dark Thirty

The eighteenth episode of The Geeks Of Doom Round Up is here, and this week, Andy plays an unreal heavy metal version of some Daft Punk tunes as played by Eric Calderone aka Erock. Meanwhile, Greg puts on his tin foil hat and rants about the new trailer for Zero Dark Thirty, the movie about the Bin Laden assassination, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, and starrng Jessica Chastain.

Later in the show, we take a look at the announcement that Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot will be helming the third Bill & Ted movie; and also at the rumors surrounding Ben Affleck possibly being groomed by Warner Brothers to be the director for a Justice League movie.

Tron: Uprising, an arrestingly-captivating new animated original series on the Disney XD channel, brings viewers back into the grid with the dynamic visuals, electrifying music and gripping storytelling that rekindled audiences with digital dazzle in Tron: Legacy.

Set between the original Tron and Tron: Legacy, Tron: Uprising focuses on mechanic-turned-renegade Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood), a deft programmer living in the stunning Argon City. Beck’s free-thinking society is soon threatened by the menacing General Tesler (Lance Henriksen), one of the evil CLU’s cohorts, who aims to take charge of the metropolis. Once his friend is “derezzed,” or the Tron version of someone being killed, Beck avenges his death by disguising himself as believed-to-be-dead hero Tron and inspiring a revolution. In the intense prologue special, “Beck’s Beginning,” we see this as almost an origins story, provided with heavy exposition to better understand the characters and storyline.

TRON Legacy is a film that, for many of us, was a generation in waiting. Many of us who were children of the Eighties were floored with the richness and uniqueness of the original TRON film, sadly now quite dated (visually, though the story still stands up), as it was a statement of the budding tech generation we were becoming a part of. For decades, we waited for the potential of a sequel, and some of us lost all hope.

Then in 2008, something exciting happened at San Diego Comic-Con. Disney previewed new “test” footage in a trailer that was somewhat of a “proof-of-concept”. Then called TR2N, the sequel news set the internet on fire – as countless fans of the original movie enjoyed the fever of the news that another chapter was coming out. I’m sure even Tron Guy was amused.
