I was initially skeptical about how Disney-Pixar’s Onward could work. The film centered on two brothers who go on a journey to find out if magic still exists. However, when director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae shared another look at the film today at the D23 Expo, it really gave me hope that it was going to be much more than that. See more below for our on-site coverage from D23.
Onward is best described as a fantasy adventure set in suburbia. And based on the two images that were released earlier this week, that would seem to be the case. Now DisneyӢPixar has unveiled their first trailer for the upcoming animated film starring Tom Holland and Chris Pratt as two elves who embark on a quest to see if there is still magic left in the world. Check out the full trailer here below.
Pixar’s Onward may open in theaters in 2020, but we are getting our first look at the film that combines fantasy and reality.
In the upcoming animated feature, Tom Holland and Chris Pratt play two magical elves who embark on a quest to find out if there is still magic left in the world. It will be the studio’s newest original film following 2017’s Coco. Check out the two new images below.
Last year, at the D23 Expo 2017, Disney announced a previously untitled Pixar project that would be directed by Dan Scanlon (Monsters University) and produced by Kori Rae. At the time the film was described as a fantasy set in suburbia.
Now Disney and Pixar have titled their fantasy pic Onward. In addition to that, they have confirmed that the voice cast will include talents like Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Octavia Spencer, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. More on the report below.
It really wouldn’t be much of a D23 Expo without the animation studio making a few new announcements. One of those announcements was from Pixar. During the presentation, Pixar head John Lasseter announced an all-new original project from Dan Scanlon (Monsters University) that takes some inspiration from his life story of losing his father at an early age.
The still-untitled film is set in a modern fantasy world where magic used to be a part of life. But because it was hard to do and very complicated, the people lost interest and soon technology took its place. This world is filled with elves, trolls, and sprites, which is something you would see on the side of a 70s van, commented Scanlon. Here, unicorns are basically like rodents who run amuck and scurry across the streets.
