Streaming Review: Creepshow Episode 6 – Skincrawlers/By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain

Happy Halloween, everyone! Once trick or treating is over, lay back on the couch with a huge bag of candy and watch the Season 1 finale of Creepshow on Shudder. The hit series from executive producer Greg Nicotero was just renewed for a second season and ends its first season 6-episode run on AMC’s horror and supernatural streaming service. The finale ends an already strong season with a double banger of monster goodness, with “Skincrawlers” and “By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain.” The latter was directed by make-up effects guru Tom Savini, who helped Nicotero break into the horror business years ago and who worked on the original 1982 film from George A. Imagine if Planet Of The Apes‘s Ape City had been a New York City-like metropolis and its simian inhabitants much more technologically advanced. That is what Rod Serling had in mind when he penned a screenplay from Pierre Boulle’s novel for the 1968 film for 20th Century Fox. But the studio felt Serling’s adaptation would be too costly to translate to the big screen, so they hired Michael Wilson (who had previously adapted Boulle’s The Bridge over the River Kwai) to rewrite the dialogue and revise the script to give the apes a more primitive society. Now, Serling’s original vision has been brought to life in Planet Of The Apes: Visionaries, a new graphic novel from BOOM! Studios.

Dana Gould interview

On Thursday, the Big Apple welcomed back New York Comic-Con. The 4-day geek spectacular emanates from its home base at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, but has spread to include the theatre at Madison Square Garden, Hammerstein Ballroom, and even the Stephen A. Schwarzman Library building. Hammerstein opened its NYCC 2017 run with a tour de force day featuring Robert Kirkman of The Walking Dead, Kevin Smith and the Comic Book Men, and the cast of IFC’s Stan Against Evil. Stan Against Evil creator and writer Dana Gould was joined by stars John C. McGinley and Janet Varney as they prepped fans for the upcoming second season, which debuts on November 1st. I took part in press roundtable to find out more about the show’s sophomore run.
