It’s been a lengthy road, but HBO has officially begun production on their Deadwood movie.
President of HBO Programming Casey Bloys announced that production had begun in Los Angeles on the movie, which is written by the creator of the TV series, David Milch, and directed by Daniel Minahan (Game of Thrones, House of Cards). Also revealed is who from the original cast is returning for the film and where the story picks back up.

We’ve been hearing about a possible Deadwood movie for a while now. It was reported back in 2015 that HBO was considering a follow-up to the western TV series, which ended its three-season run 12 years ago now in 2006. In early 2016 it sounded like HBO had given the greenlight to the movie, though apparently that was just a verbal commitment. Then, later in 2016, came word that series creator David Milch was working on the screenplay for the movie.
We got a brief update on the movie’s status last year, but for the most part things have been relatively quiet the past couple of years. But now business is really picking up. HBO’s president of programming Casey Bloys movie has officially confirmed that the Deadwood is on the way and will hopefully begin filming soon.
