Many spoilers ahead for last week’s Gotham, and a couple for tonight’s episode. Beware!

Last week on Gotham, it was villains betraying villains, and future villains helping future heroes, and future partners working together. How did this all come about? Theo Galavan (James Frain) sets his plan’s next phase into motion at the Children’s Hospital gala run by Lee (Morena Baccarin). It’s a wonder that any rich people go to any event in Gotham, since they always seem to be hit up. There, Jerome and Barbara (Cameron Monaghan and Erin Richards) replace the scheduled magician and assistant, to replace laughter with terror. Selina (Camren Bicondova) and Bruce (David Mazouz) make their escape, but Bruce goes back in to save Alfred (Sean Pertwee), only stopped for a moment by Jim (Ben McKenzie), who realizes they must work together to handle this. They needn’t have worried. Theo kills Jerome (ultimate villain betrayal) – “Enter the hero,” in a moment that belonged on Days of our Lives. Gotham needs a hero. And Theo plans on being one (of course causing the messes himself to stage the heroism). Adorable – Selina coming back to make sure Bruce is okay. Creepy – dead Jerome’s laugh is contagious.

It’s the end of an awesome inaugural season for Gotham! This Batman prequel centers around Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and how he tries to clean up corrupt Gotham city with partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), before the masked superhero grows up. We watched (and so did Selina Kyle – newcomer Camren Bicondova) the parents of Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) get murdered, starting his obsession with finding their killers and the corruption within Wayne Enterprises. We met the mob players of the town. There’s Don Falcone (John Doman) with his underling Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), and her soon-to-be betrayer underling Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor). There is also Don Maroni (David Zayas), a loudmouth who is trying to take over as well. We watched Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) go from amiable lab geek to a full on psycho, cementing his inevitable Riddler persona. Many other characters from the DC universe have also visited Gotham this season like the Joker, Poison Ivy, The Dollmaker, and Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk).

Gotham 1.2 “Selina Kyle” review coming right up after these Gotham 1.1 “Pilot” messages (recap):

Major Spoilers!!

Gotham is a pre-origins story focusing on Jim Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) battle with the many criminals of Gotham, when there were no superheroes, yet the supervillains were beginning to flourish. His blossoming friendship with young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) starts here. Jim’s first case is the murder of Bruce’s parents, a robbery gone wrong, or so it seems. Idealist Jim is saddled with crooked partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), and is forced to make questionable choices in order to keep his loved ones safe. They kill the guy that was set up as the murderer (future Poison Ivy’s dad), and almost lose their lives themselves, thanks to new villain Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Carmine Falcone (John Doman), the real power of the town. Jim bonds with Bruce and makes the lifelong secret vow (secret between them and Sean Pertwee‘s Alfred) to find the real killers.
