Pink Floyd-Animals

Never let it be said that Pink Floyd doesn’t know how to mark an occasion in grand style. Back in September, to celebrate the start of EMI Records’ “Why Pink Floyd?” marketing campaign that will see the rerelease of 14 of the band’s studio albums among other things, organizers staged a recreation of the famous cover art for the band’s 1977 album Animals.

You can watch a video the staging here below.

pink floyd dark side of the moonThrough the end of January 2011, Amazon is offering up classic rock albums for only $5.00 each in MP3 format. If you purchase MP3s through Amazon, it downloads into your iTunes account, so it’s as simple as purchasing directly through iTunes. Also, you can now gift these MP3 purchases – just click the “Give album OR song as gift” button on the right on the product page.

I’ve written about my love of Pink Floyd tons of times already, so I have to mention that one of the albums on sale for only $5.00 is Dark Side Of The Moon, so if you don’t already own this album, definitely grab it now, it’s insanely amazing.

Other albums available for $5.00 each are John Lennon‘s Power To The People – The Hits, which has 15 of Lennon’s solo hits like “Imagine,” “Instant Karma,” and “Woman”; Free‘s Fire And Water, singer Paul Rodgers’s first band and contains their hit “All Right Now,” and Styx‘s Crystal Ball.

Dark Side of the TriforceEarlier, I posted here about how Pink Floyd‘s classic album Dark Side Of The Moon is available in MP3 format right now for only $1.99.

Now, the $9 t-shirt deal of the day over at Teefury today mashes up Pink Floyd’s iconic album cover art with The Legend Of Zelda in “The Dark Side Of The Triforce” by artist TedDastickJr.

The sale at Teefury began at midnight EST (Sunday, November 28, 2010) and will continue for 24 hours, and once it’s over, it’s gone forever.

The t-shirt design takes the Triforce symbol from Zelda (of three golden triangles), having it take the place of the prism on the Dark Side Of The Moon album cover. Like the album cover, there’s the white light on one side, with the rainbow spectrum on the other.

MP3 Deal: Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ For $2!

pink floyd dark side of the moonAll this week, Amazon has been offering up five albums per day for only $1.99 each in mp3 format. If you purchase MP3s through Amazon, it downloads into your iTunes account, so it’s as simple as purchasing directly through iTunes. Also, you can now gift these MP3 purchases – just click the “Give album or song as gift” button on the right on the product page.

Today, Pink Floyd‘s classic Dark Side Of The Moon is available for only $1.99.

I can’t imagine that there’s anyone left out there who doesn’t already own this amazing Pink Floyd album, but just in case, now’s the time to get it, as it’s only $2. I can’t stress enough how crazy insane it would be to pass up this deal.

There’s a reason Dark Side of the Moon is one of the best-selling albums of all time: the 1973 release has 9 songs and you’d be hard-pressed to find one even mediocre song, let alone one that’s bad.

If you’re not familiar with the album, and you’re wondering if you’ve ever heard any songs from it, chances are, you have: “Money,” which opens with the sounds a cash register ringing and coins clanking, was its popular single and has been in frequent rotation for decades on classic rock stations.

Note, the deal is supposed to be just for today, though it most likely will last maybe through the weekend. Another album that is only $1.99 this week is John Lennon‘s Power To The People – The Hits, which is still on sale. It has 15 of Lennon’s solo hits, like “Imagine,” “Instant Karma,” and “Woman.”

Listen To Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ 8-Bit Style

8-Bit Dark Side of the Moon

You remember the days: you grabbed your favorite Nintendo video game cartridge, blew vigorously into your console and the game itself, and pushed the plastic treaure in as far as it would go and then down with a subtle click.

On bad days, your system light would blink or stare blankly back at you, requiring more professional troubleshoot-blowing, but on good days, a moment or two would pass before the beautifully melodic tones of a synthetic 8-bit musical soundtrack would ring out to our eager ears. This is what being happy was all about in the ’80s. Nothing was better, and nothing would ever be better.

We were of course young and stupid back then, and many much better things have come along as we’ve grown old. Even still, the faintest hum of a beepy 8-bit video game’s music can still ignite explosions of nostalgia in our heads, and with today’s delightful technologies, it’s possible for anyone to turn anything into 8-bit musical heaven!

One such person named Brad Smith decided not to stop at one basic tune, but to take one of the most popular albums of all time, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, and make it 100% 8-bit. It’s called MOON8. The brilliant tunes are in six different parts that can all be found at YouTube, but you can put down your Triforce and hop a couple turtles and mushrooms over to the other side to hear a few favorites!
