We’ve seen lots and lots of Star Wars fan films over the years, but this one would have to be in the discussion as one of the best.
I won’t get into what it’s about—it’s better to just watch and enjoy—but as you probably already gathered from the title Darth Maul: Apprentice and the image above, it follows a one Mr. Darth Maul.
Back in 2010, a new Star Wars video game was being developed by Red Fly Studio that would focus on the Phantom Menace villain Darth Maul and be inspired by Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum, which had come out the year before.
Ultimately LucasArts decided to cancel the game (the year before Disney acquired the company and we lost games like Star Wars 1313), but a video was recently released that shows off a bit of what the game looked like. Though it appears to be much more like one of the Force Unleashed games than Arkham Asylum, fans of Star Wars and Maul surely would have been thrilled to play it.
Darth Maul is alive. This should be of no shock to anyone, really. To begin with, the expanded Star Wars universe has a habit of resurrecting characters that were killed on-screen. Boba Fett was one notable example. Darth Maul was inevitable. I’m still anticipating the moment when Mace Windu comes back. And he will. I’m pretty sure that will happen.
In a lot of ways, it should have almost been expected that Maul would return. Despite vocal fan criticism of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul was received quite well by the majority of fans as a formidable and precise villain. Brought to life with the acrobatic antics of Ray Park, Maul was a Sith Lord not only with the skills, but with the look of a nightmare.
In Star Wars: Darth Maul – Death Sentence #2, we find the roles reversed and Darth Maul put into a situation where he actually has to HELP people instead of kill them. But, that doesn’t mean he’s any nicer about things.
Writer Tom Taylor gives up another chapter in the Clone Wars era of the Star Wars universe. Now, we’ve seen Darth Maul ‘die’ in The Phantom Menace, and we’ve seen him come back to life in the Clone Wars cartoon series, but beyond that, we don’t know what truly happen to him, so this mini series is a bit of a mystery. Will he die for good this time? Will he survive and wander the galaxy while the “original” Star Wars films are going on? Who knows?
A French fast food restaurant called Quick is making some specialty burgers in conjunction with the re-release of Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace in 3D.
The trio of burgers each draw inspiration from the Star Wars universe. The first is the “Dark Burger,” inspired by Darth Maul (or “Dark Maul”), which can be seen here. Then comes the “Jedi Burger,” inspired by Master Yoda and the Jedi, and last but not least, the “Dark Vador” burger, which is of course inspired by Darth Vader and can be seen above. The Vader burger is the most notable of the three because it comes on a jet-black “carbonized” bun.
