Imagine your favorite comic book, movie, and fairy tale heroes and villains if they existed during the Renaissance. What might a painted portrait of them from those times have looked like?
Wonder no more. Photographer Sacha Goldberger was part of an event in Paris recently where these iconic characters—including Batman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, The Hulk, Darth Vader, Catwoman, Princess Leia, Joker, Superman, Snow White, and others—were photographed with a decidedly old school look to them, creating a fascinating set of Renaissance painting-style cosplay images.

The former Jedi and evil henchmen for the Galactic Empire (or at least someone dressed like him) is running in the upcoming parliamentary elections there as a legitimate candidate. Vader even has an ad campaign making rounds on the internet this week featuring beautiful fields (not unlike Naboo), a horse, and even a traditional Russian instrument being played by Lord Vader to a familiar stirring tune.
We Star Wars aficionados grab onto anything related to this expansive universe whenever possible. Since Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, more and more items involving Star Wars have begun popping up online. The $11 t-shirt deal of the day over at TeeFury today is a Star Wars-inspired shirt called “Sith & Sabers” by Drew Wise. For $1 more ($12), you can get this shirt with fluorescent glow ink.
The sale began at Teefury today, Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at midnight EST, and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it’s over, it will not be sold on the site for $11 anymore, though it will continue into the next day for $14 (look for the After Hours bar at the top).
Chinese New Year is in full swing today, with lots of celebrating across the land — and across the galaxy, too, as even Star Wars villain Darth Vader is welcoming in this Year of the Horse.
