The Rocketeer: The Complete Adventures is essential to your comic book collection. Reviewing a book like this is super hard. It’s all classic material, every bit of it. But, I’ll do my best.

Dave Stevens is a talented writer. He was a HUGE fan of this era of history, and it shows. Even though this material was written decades ago, it still applies and connects with the reader today. In this age where people watch movies and television shows and basically live their lives on their phones, it’s nice to visit a simpler time. One where the world was a lot bigger. People actually used their mouths to talk to other people, having conversations that lasted an afternoon, and were not limited to 140 characters. These adventures of Cliff Secord and the mysterious jetpack that he found will make take you from the edge of your seat, put you through the full gambit of emotions and give you the greatest gift that a story can give you: Hope.

G.I. Joe #1 ushers in a new era of awesomeness for the Joe team. It’s G.I. Joe against Cobra, the…..peacekeepers. Yes. You read that right. Peacekeepers. As in people who keep the peace. Let’s see how that works out for them.

For the first time in history, G.I. Joe has a woman at the helm. Literally. Writer Karen Traviss makes the jump from military fiction novels to comics, and the one burning question that I have is, why didn’t she do it sooner?

Zombies permeate our entertainment at all levels these days. Though, in truth, they have morphed quite a bit from the old shuffling feet and inexhaustible searching for brains versions that I grew up on several decades ago. Popular television shows and even classic literature have fallen victim, but few have any originality to them. They are after all, just zombies. That’s where The Other Dead #1 changes the game a tad. You see, this isn’t about just regular old zombies…it’s about things OTHER than man becoming reanimated and doing horrible things to those around them.

The premiere issue of this six issue mini-series is all about the setup, though some things have already begun that will affect the storyline later on. In this comic, we get a fine sampling of animals gone wild, er…undead. From hunters taking down wild game that comes back to unlife to rend them limb from limb to ritually sacrificed animals coming back to exact vengeance on those who did them wrong. This all seems to be taking place in the deep south, namely southern Louisiana.

There was no way I was going to pass up the chance to review a book called Henchmen. I mean, come on, this is a book that was tailor made for me to enjoy. And enjoy it I did. Henchmen was a pleasant surprise to me. I assumed that this would be a series with a fair bit of humor and that’s exactly what I got.

Henchman follows the adventures of Gary, a down on his luck middle-aged man going through a divorce and just trying to get by. When he loses his job, he does what so many of us dream we could, turn to organized villainy. He hooks up with a bowling-themed villain and eventually becomes not only a henchman, but an innovator to the profession of henching.
