James Gunn Wanted David Bowie To Cameo In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’
David Bowie tragically passed last night at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer. We have already shared our thoughts on the legend, musician, and actor. Those who were influenced by his work have also shared their thoughts on Bowie’s passing giving their own tributes.
James Gunn, whose Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack most appropriately featured Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream” from the classic The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars album, shared his own thoughts about how the artist’s work helped shaped his career as a storyteller, and he also revealed that there were discussions about possibly having Bowie cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Massive Metal Monday: David Bowie’s Tin Machine “Under The God”
One might not immediately equate the late, great David Bowie with heavy metal, but to dismiss his influence on the genre would be remiss. Between the years of 1988-1992, the Thin White Duke teamed up with guitarist Reeves Gabrels and a rhythm section consisting of brothers Hunt and Tony Sales (sons of famous TV funnyman Soupy Sales) to form a metallic edged hard rock collective known as Tin Machine.
The project only saw the release of two studio albums (both of which were produced by my friend Tim Palmer) and one live record, but in that short span the band would produce some of the heaviest, angriest music of Bowie’s storied career.

David Bowie: Remembering A True Legend, A Wizard, A Star
David Bowie, rocker, chameleon, progenitor of glam and punk in many ways, and all around creative renaissance man, has died at the age of 69.
There are many generations and legions of fans, some of whom have followed the man since his debut as (using his real name) David Jones and the Lower Third in the mid 1960s, when he employed a sort of Syd Barrett/Donovan pagan style in his music, using the vogue of the British psychedelic folk sounds of the time. Once he hooked up with people like the late legendary guitarist Mick Ronson and the producer Tony Visconti and started doing the kind of sounds fellow sonic countrymen T-Rex were doing, biting guitars out of the Stooges playbook with a kind of androgyny outer shell to them, did the legend of David Bowie start to spout.
