The Fighter is a boxing movie, featuring Mark Wahlberg as Micky Ward and a show-stealing Christian Bale acting as Ward’s brother, Dicky Eklund. Based on a true story, the film follows Ward’s rise in the sport, while focusing on the inner turmoil of his family members – but ultimately is a tale of fall-from-grace, resulting in deliverance and reconciliation.

The film opens with an HBO crew following Eklund, who believes they are following him for “his big comeback” in the ring. He lives for his wonder days of when he himself was boxing, and continually bringing up the time he took down Sugar Ray. In fact, the HBO crew is following Eklund for a different reason – they are making a documentary on crack addiction.

A new director has been chosen to bring the hit Naughty Dog video game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, to life on the big screen.

Sony Pictures has entered into negotiations with Neil Burger to both write and direct the adaptation, which follows explorer Nathan Drake as he follows the clues left by his ancestor, Sir Francis Drake, toward a great (and dangerous) treasure.

Burger hasn’t done a ton of movies so far, but he wrote and directed the enjoyable Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti film, The Illusionist, and The Lucky Ones, which starred Tim Robbins and Rachel McAdams. Most recently he directed the Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro thriller, Limitless, but did not pen the script for that movie.

One of the joys of writing about movie news is that you can cover something and the storylines that come it a significant amount of times, and then find out that none of it really mattered, as if it were all just a dream. But in this case, discovering that it was all a dream (or nightmare, in some cases) is something that most fans will welcome with open arms.

Deadline is reporting that David O. Russell, the director behind the Oscar-winning boxing drama, The Fighter, has decided to leave the movie adaptation of the hit video game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Russell had been attached to direct the movie for a long while, and as mentioned above, many strange twists came of his time with the project. The most notable of which was when his Fighter star Mark Wahlberg revealed that he was going to play Nathan Drake in the movie, which set fans of the game into a enraged frenzy.

An Oscar Nominations Observation: Did ‘The Social Network’ Doom Itself?

The Social Network over the past couple months has been unabashedly accepting every award and congratulatory remark that has been sent its way. It seemed the film was determined to be held in eminence amongst other films that are in awards contention this year. Since the film opened in early October it has been on an irrepressible ascent, exceeding every other film in critical acclaim (according to the online site Metacritic it scored an impressive 95).

Satisfaction endured on the film’s behalf all the way up until this past Tuesday morning, where David Fincher‘s Facebook film tallied a total of 8 Oscar nominations. You may say such a particular outing is absolutely superb. But taking into consideration the mentality of students attending Harvard University (like those in The Social Network), 8 is somewhat of a disappointment when you can have many more. Such students anticipate nothing but the best. Given the multitude of accolades The Social Network received, a measly 8 nominations simply cannot be adequately embraced.

It’s been a wild roller coaster ride since it was announced that a movie based on the popular video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was being made. There’s been ups like knowing a movie was coming and hearing fan-favorite Nathan Fillion wanted the lead role, and there’s been downs like finding out that Mark Wahlberg had seemingly been cast instead and that there would new characters added inexplicably.

Fans have been making their voices heard — even to the point of approaching director David O. Russell and pleading their case for Fillion — and now those fans will be happy to discover that certain things regarding the movie might not be quite as set in stone as it was feared.

In an interview with Joystiq, Justin Richmond, the director of the brand new installment in the video game series, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, spoke about the rumors that have been circulating about the movie.
