Attention, everyone!

Today begins the much-talked-about DC Relaunch, the massive reboot of the entire DC Universe, which will see 52 DC Comics titles renumbered back to issue #1.

Our own MK2FAC3 has been doing a fine job keeping us on top of all things DC Relaunch with his continuing coverage of this historical event. “The Fac3” has much more where that came from, so keep a lookout for our DC Relaunch Of Doom features.

In the meantime, check out this video by Patrick Willems of Lumberjack Films that sets out to explain the importance of this whole DC Relaunch thing.

Is DC’s Renumbering A Good Thing?
  |  @   |

By now, if you are a comics fan, you’ve heard that not only is DC Comics going to be re-launching all of their series with new number one issues come August/September, but they will also be releasing all of these new issues digitally on the same date that the printed versions arrive in comic book stores [read Entire DC Comics Line To Be Renumbered and Get Day-and-Date Digital Release].

This is a big deal as they are the first major company to do this for their entire line of superhero books (no mention is made of whether DC’s Vertigo line will also be released in the same way). With the rise of the iPad and other tablet PC’s, digital comics have come to be seen as the future of comics. They are seen as a way to get people who don’t normally go into comic book stores to try out the world of comics publishing. Whether this is actually happening is hard to tell. Exact numbers for how many copies of books have been sold digitally are split up between any number of companies, and it’s impossible to get everyone to combine their numbers. All we can really tell is that people are not going into stores in numbers that they used to.

Release Date, Cover Art For ‘All-Star Superman’ Animated Feature
  |  @   |

A lot of comic fans have been looking forward to the next DC Universe Animated Feature, All-Star Superman, and now they have a date to look forward to. It was announced that the DVD and Blu-ray will be released on February 22, 2011. We also got a look at the cover which doesn’t look like it was actually done by Frank Quietly, artist of the comic series the movie is based on, but it does look very similar to his style.

See the cover art here at right.

All-Star Superman is as I said, based on the comic of the same name, written by Grant Morrison with art by Quietly. The story follows a dying Superman as he faces his last days and has one last battle with Lex Luthor. The comic is one of the best series of the last few years, and it will be interesting to see how the unique story is translated into a 70-minute movie.

The movie is executive produced by Bruce Timm (mastermind of the DC animated universe), directed by Sam Liu (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) and written by Dwayne McDuffie (also Crisis on Two Earths, as well as a bunch of Justice League Unlimited episodes). The movie features James Denton as Superman, Christina Hendricks as Lois Lane, and Anthony LaPaglia as Lex Luther.
