A couple of months back it was reported that The Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks was set to star in the Power Rangers movie reboot as the villain Rita Repulsa.

Now we have our first look at Banks in full costume as the baddie, and she looks much different from the version seen in the image above. Banks herself describes it as a “modern and edgy re-imagining” of the original’s look.

Power Rangers is a film that is happening. After various TV iterations and reincarnations, network switches, and two live-action films, we are finally getting a new reboot with an all new cast. The principle story stays the same where five teenagers with attitude and skills are recruited by Zordon to stop an evil alien force from ruling the world. Now the five young recruits consist of a young and relatively unknown cast. But one of Lionsgate’s major goals was to cast an A-list star to attract fans of the franchise and generate new ones.

The studio didn’t have to look too far as they have cast Elizabeth Banks to play Rita Replusa.

As expected, Dean Israelite has gone with relative unknowns to play the titluar heroes in Power Rangers. We saw a glimpse of who Israelite was looking at when they started testing for the roles of the five teenagers earlier this month. However, the only one to be confirmed from those testings so far is Naomi Scott (The Martian, The 33). Newcomer, Dacre Montgomery was also announced earlier this month as Jason the Red Ranger.

Now two more actors will be receiving their power coins and morphers. The official Power Rangers Twitter account confirmed that Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt, Netflix’s Marco Polo) and Me and Earl And The Dying Girl star RJ Cyler will be joining the cast. Find out who they will be playing below.

It has been slow-going, but Lionsgate is finally getting ready to cast Power Rangers. This past summer, a character description list revealed that the team would be comprised of Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini, and Kimberly – these are the names of the five who would become the first power rangers. The descriptions followed the basic character tropes of natural-born leader, the cool-guy, the nerd, the calm and collected person, and the popular pretty one.

Lionsgate’s adaptation of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers hits theaters January 2017, but up until now we didn’t know much about the film. The last major development for the film was that Project Almanac director Dean Israelite was signed on to direct the film. But with no cast or list of characters, fans weren’t sure if this was going to be another installment to the long running TV franchise or if this would be a major reboot.
