One thing you have to appreciate about the Cloverfield franchise is that it is building its own mythology without the films’ actually knowing its a part of J.J. Abrams’ grand mystery box scheme. Cloverfield was a sci-fi romp that drew its found-footage inspiration from films like Blair Witch. 10 Cloverfield Lane was a more focused offering that was like a theatrical play set almost entirely in an underground bunker. And both are somehow loosely connected to each other without the characters of those films knowing it. However, Netflix surprised us all on Sunday night by releasing The Cloverfield Paradox, the latest installment of the Cloverfield franchise, this time set in space.

Unfortunately, the entire film is a disjointed mess that haphazardly throws in dated and familiar plot devices and twists for the sake of being “Cloverfield In Space.”

Warning! Spoilers below tonight’s episode of Gotham!

Last week on Gotham, Penguin’s (Robin Lord Taylor) new business giving out crime licenses was flourishing and even the GCPD is on board – except for Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie). Penguin wanted to unionize crime. Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) also did not like it, having run across it during a vigilante run. Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) started training Selina (Camren Bicondova). An unlicensed gang took Jonathan Crane (Charlie Tahan), and forced him to make more fear juice. Gordon used Penguin to flush out the gang and make Penguin look cowardly.

Warning! Spoilers below for the season 4 premiere of Gotham!

Last season on Gotham was just bananas, as we lost 2 (sort of 3 then 4 then 3 again) major characters. Bruce ran Alfred (David Mazouz, Sean Pertwee) through with a sword, but Ra’s al Ghul (Alexander Siddig) told him to use the Lazarus Pit to restore him. Bruce vowed to never join him. Jim (Ben McKenzie) accidentally killed Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith) and she and Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) had a touching moment before she died in his arms. Penguin got the drop on Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) and froze him into an ice sculpture. Barbara killed Butch (Erin Richards, Drew Powell) and then Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) killed Barbara. Lee left Jim (Morena Baccharin) after he wouldn’t run away with her and he injected her with the cure for the Tetch virus. A masked Bruce Wayne stopped a robbery in progress.
