At the recent San Diego Comic Con, a teaser trailer and footage from Guillermo del Toro‘s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark made a huge impact on the crowd (Read: SDCC 2010: “˜Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’ Panel With Guillermo del Toro). It also helped that del Toro, who wrote and produced the film, was being as hilarious as we’ve seen him, but truly this is something people will be excited to see.

The movie is a remake of the 1973 horror title of the same name. It will tell the story of a girl who goes to live with her father and his girlfriend in a large old house. Before long, they discover that an evil resides within the house, and it wants the young girl to itself.

Now you can get a small peek at what was shown at Comic Con with the release of the movie’s official teaser trailer. As described in the panel recap, it’s a brief video that has some voice over and shows a little girl attempting to hide from something under her bed covers.

SDCC 2010: ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’ Panel With Guillermo del Toro

A lot of movies have been showing off footage at Comic Con 2010 that have received high praise, and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark is no different. The movie, which is written by Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins and directed by Troy Nixey, made an appearance at this year’s convention and proceeded to blow some faces off.

This panel was really just all about the footage shown, and we’ll do our best to describe it to you in-full below. For those who don’t know, the movie is a remake of the 1973 movie of the same name. In the movie, a girl (Bailee Madison) goes to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes). The thing about the house that she goes to live in is that it houses some evil creatures who reside in a pit of ash, and they want the girl to join them.

The first thing shown was a brief teaser trailer for the movie, which is what we’ll likely see first whenever they decide to release it. The teaser opens with some spooky voiceover that says “You’re sitting there in the dark, but don’t worry…there’s nothing to be afraid of.” After that there’s a collection of quick, dark clips shown between the words of the title. We then see a girl in bed hiding under her covers with a flashlight. She begins to move toward the end of her bed while still under the covers…and when she gets there she jumps and screams. We don’t get to see whatever startles her, but you can bet it was creepy stuff.

Guy Pearce Joins Katie Holmes In Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’

It’s been a while since we heard that Guillermo del Toro was attached to remake the 1973 TV movie Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Recently the project has begun to heat up with the announcement of Katie Holmes being cast, and now comes word that Guy Pearce is in final negotiations to star in the movie. Nine-year old Bailee Madison — who already has almost 20 IMDB listings — has also been cast.

The movie was about a man whose young daughter moves into his creepy house with him and his girlfriend. Eventually the young girl discovers that the house is also inhabited by demons who want to make the little girl one of their own — though her father refuses to believe this to be true.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, Pearce will of course play the father; Holmes will play his girlfriend, while Madison will naturally play his daughter. Guillermo del Toro wrote the script with Matthew Robbins and he is producing with Mark Johnson. One of del Toro’s understudies, Troy Nixey, will be directing the movie adaptation.
