The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Mostly Harmless Shirt

The deal of the day over at RIPT Apparel today is a design inspired by the Douglas Adams Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy universe called “Mostly Harmless” by tonynichols.

The shirt went on sale at RIPT today, Saturday, January 4, 2014, at midnight CST, and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it’s over, it will not be sold on the site anymore.

Douglas Adams Interactive Google Doodle

Today marks the birthday of author Douglas Adams, best known for his humorous science fiction books, most notably The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. In honor of the late author, who would have been 61, Google has posted an interactive Doodle on their home page today, March 11, 2012.

The interactive Doodle incorporates items from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, including the famed guide itself, and if you click through in the right places, you’ll get the whole story! Click on the objects in the doodle on Google‘s homepage to see everything in action. Be sure to turn up the sound! Below is a video that shows all the interactions, in case you miss any.

In a rather captivating, though curious manner, you might find it astonishing that Gareth Roberts‘ adaptation of the Doctor Who adventure by Douglas Adams called Shada caused music to play in my head.

That sounds a little weird, of course. But when it comes to both Doctor Who and Douglas Adams, the strangeness should not only be expected by now, but mandatory par for the course.

Allow me to explain.

In all types of writing, a good author will not only be able to explain the scene to you, but totally immerse you in it: you can see the brightness (or gloominess) of the sky, you can almost feel the floors or walls of the setting, and you can smell the odors described, such as the scent of rain on a hot day”¦ or petrichor, for example…
