May 25th is Towel Day!

On this great day, be sure to carry a towel around with you today in honor of the late great author Douglas Adams and his awesome book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

This international event is now celebrating its 12th anniversary with lots of stuff happening around the globe. Check out towelday.org to find out about Towel Day events.

Today’s not only a great day to carry a towel, but it’s the perfect occasion to donate one, too! For instance, if you’re in or around the Salem, MA area, Mike’s Museum is holding its second annual towel collection for the animal shelter at Front Street Coffee House. So, drop off a towel there, or to any animal shelter – they need them as much as interstellar hitchhikers do!

With the season finale of Doctor Who Series 6 coming up this weekend, I thought it would be a good idea to make some more Classic Doctor Who recommendations for some of the new fans out there who may have only ever seen the new series that has been going since 2005.

As mentioned in our post of our first 10 recommendations, to a generation of Doctor Who fans, there have been only three Doctors since they discovered the adventures of the Time Lord: Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith.

Independent game developer Hothead Games is working on a new Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy game.

The announcement was made on May 25, 2011 — Towel Day — by Megadodo Publications, who you might recognize as the publishers of the actual Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy sited within the novel of the same name by the late Douglas Adams.

Following the broadcast of the Doctor Who Christmas Special, the TARDISblend returns, as we not only review A Christmas Carol, but discuss the new teaser trailer for Doctor Who Series 6, and discover a couple of bits and pieces you may have missed!

To kick off the show, we dissect the new trailer, discussing the elements we enjoyed seeing the most, and then highlight a couple of minor pieces of footage included in the trailer that connect to a stand-alone episode in Series 5 called The Lodger. We dive into reviewing A Christmas Carol, and examine the excellent performance of Michael Gambon in the show.

Later, we review some of the related Doctor Who news floating around the web — including information about new cast members for Torchwood, and a free Doctor Who e-book released by the BBC.
