E3 2012: Free-To-Play Games ‘DUST 514’ & ‘Hawken’ Make Their Presence Known

Free-to-play games are getting bigger and bigger each day (something game studios who make big money from you dropping $60 on a game surely despise), but most of the ones we’ve seen are expectedly poor in quality.

At this year’s E3 convention, however, a couple of upcoming free-to-play games titled DUST 514 and Hawken were shown off, and they could just be worth keeping an eye on.

Free First-Person Shooter MMO ‘DUST 514’ Coming To PlayStation; Is This The Future Of Gaming?

In what could be a major achievement in video games and their future, a new game titled DUST 514 from CCP Games is looking to do something no one else has succeeded in doing yet: to offer a massively multiplayer online first-person shooter gaming experience, and to not charge you a single penny to play it.

When it’s released, the game will be available to all PlayStation 3 owners through the PlayStation Network for no cost whatsoever.

Anyone who’s played (and continued to pay for) one of the top MMOs, such as World of Warcraft or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, knows just how absurd this sounds, and the exciting part will be seeing whether it becomes what’s being promised of it or if it will underperform in the end.
