The last time we had a brush with death was in 2010’s The Final Destination. As it turned out, that installment in the horror movie franchise was by far the worst of them all with horrible acting, nonsensical situations, soap opera-level acting, and just an all-around unlikable final product. And that’s coming from someone who very much enjoyed the previous installments in the series for what they are: gruesomely fun guilty pleasures.

First Look: ‘The Thing’ Prequel Teaser Poster

The Thing (2011) Prequel

Not much has been heard about Universal’s much talked about prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi horror classic The Thing, itself a remake of 1951’s Howard Hawks-produced The Thing from Another World, since it was bumped from its original Spring release date to make way for Fast Five. There hasn’t even been an official trailer released yet outside of a teaser that screened at conventions last year (which you can watch below; also, here’s our footage description and panel coverage from the 2010 New York Comic-Con). On top of all this, the studio also decided to name the prequel The Thing as well, because they don’t want to create any confusion apparently.

Hoping to stave off the cloud of doom that hangs over this new Thing, Universal has released the first official poster and it looks….interesting. (Check it out here below.) In fact, the poster definitely looks like one for a Thing movie so I guess the studio did their job. It’s a simple yet creepy piece with the logo (strongly reminiscent of the 1982 film) taking up most of the poster space and a mysterious individual inside the logo sprouting some strange looking appendages on their left hand, which brings to mind the fate of one of the characters from the Carpenter film.

The Final Destination

Bloody-Disgusting has uncovered a bit of information regarding Warner Brothers Pictures fifth installment in the Final Destination franchise. And though we don’t know much about the movie itself, what we read here could just say a lot about what direction the horror flick is heading in.

We won’t waste your time — let’s get right to it. According to the source, Warner Bros. is currently leaning toward calling their new movie 5NAL DESTINATION. Yes, that’s actually what words are indicating could be the new title. Five-nal Destination. Seriously.

The Final Destination

New Line Cinema has chosen Steven Quale to direct Final Destination 5, the latest chapter in their franchise about an unseen force that comes back to kill those who miraculously survive gruesome and tragic accidents.

Quale is a newcomer to directing, but he’s be in the filmmaking game for a long time and has worked under one of the true masters of spectacular productions: James Cameron. Quale started with Cameron in 1989 as a production assistant on The Abyss. Since then he’s worked with the director on special projects for Terminator 2: Judgment Day and True Lies, as a second unit director on both Titanic and Avatar, and as co-director on the IMAX special, Aliens of the Deep. He also worked on Avatar as a visual effects supervisor.
