As we’ve mentioned here before, every year for Thanksgiving we donate to Farm Sanctuary to sponsor one of the turkeys that are living out a peaceful, natural existence at one of their sanctuaries.
Here at Geeks Of Doom headquarters we’ll be enjoying our Tofurky today to celebrate the holiday, but even if you’re not vegetarian, you can still show compassion too by “Adopting” a turkey this Thanksgiving.
Check out the video here below, which is presented by Spokesturkeys Reggie and Jake from the animated movie Free Birds. In it, you can see all the beautiful turkeys up for sponsorship.
Today is Valentine’s Day and you still don’t have a gift for your someone special – what should you do? You can go out and snag some of the florist’s overpriced roses, or run to the jewelry store and get some blood diamonds, or grab the last box of chocolates now crushed under the weight the last-minute Valentine’s Day gift stampede. But if none of that sounds appealing to you, then here’s a stress-free solution for you: give the one you love a charitable gift.
Here’s our list of 5 Last-Minute Charitable Gift Ideas For Valentine’s Day.
Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones, is Farm Sanctuary‘s spokesperson for their 2012 national Walk for Farm Animals.
Check out the video here below of Dinklage talking about the organization and what they do, as well as their annual Walk For Farm Animals.
Geeks Of Doom proudly supports the efforts of Farm Sanctuary. For years now, we’ve sponsoring animals at their sanctuaries and have participated their Walk For Farm Animals in NYC (and thanks to generous readers like you, we raised a lot of money for the organization last year!). So, we’re extremely excited to see that Dinklage is the spokesperson for the Walk this year (as if we need another reason to love him!).
Today is Valentine’s Day and I, for one, really enjoy this holiday. I feel that any day that celebrates love is a good day. But, I know there are many people out there who hate it, including those who scream about “corporate greed!” and feel it’s a holiday created by greeting card companies to guilt men into spending their hard-earned cash on overpriced cards, chocolates, flowers, and jewelry. Well, I can’t argue with you there, as it is a big cash-in day for many industries (you Capitalists should love that).
So, for those of you who don’t want to give your money to corporate fat-cats or go along with the obligatory overpriced flowers and candy routine, then here’s some last-minute charitable gifts you can give — because let’s face it, if you’ve been going on all year about how Valentine’s Day sucks, then most likely haven’t gotten your sweetie a gift yet. But hey, just because you’re a non-conformist who hates sappy holidays doesn’t mean you can’t show the love, too, and not just for your partner, but for anyone in your life you care about. And, wouldn’t giving to charity on Valentine’s Day be a nice finger in the face to materialism? Yeah, go for it!
