Sony Pictures Entertainment has released an official trailer for The Girl In The Spider’s Web, a follow-up to 2011’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Rooney Mara played Lisbeth Salander in the 2011 film, but is not reprising the role in the new movie. Stepping in to take on the role this time around is The Crown star Claire Foy. Directing this time around is Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead), who also penned the screenplay along with Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Peaky Blinders) and Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Continent). As we found out last year, Alvarez and Basu are also collaborating on a sequel to Jim Henson’s Labyrinth.

Back in 2014 came surprising word of a sequel to Jim Henson‘s 1986 feature Labyrinth. The sequel was quickly denied by sources, but no one ever knows if denials like that are because something is actually not happening or if word of it got out to the public before they were ready. A little over a year later the project surfaced again, this time with Guardians of the Galaxy writer Nicole Perlman, though she later said it was clickbait.
Now comes word of a new attempt. It’s being reported that the director behind 2013’s Evil Dead and last year’s Don’t Breathe, Fede Alvarez, has come on board to write and direct the Labyrinth sequel.
Shortly after Ben Affleckdropped out as director of The Batman, War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves became one of the frontrunners to direct the film. Now a new report confirms Reeves that is in talks to direct the film. We are also learning who else was in the running to direct. Check out the full story below.
Confused? Well you are probably not the only one. Yesterday we reported that Evil Dead remake writer Rodo Sayagues and director Fede Alvarez had not been working on Evil Dead 2 for months. But it was strange that this bit of news didn’t make it into the Hollywood trades. Well there is a reason for that.
Alverez took to twitter to say that we shouldn’t believe everything that is said on the internet – and we all know how the internet can blow things out of proportion.
For all the success of the Evil Dead (2013), and planning of merging the two Evil Dead franchises into one universe, the news of Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues no longer directing Evil Dead 2 comes off as a bit strange. The two were attached to work on the sequel after the first film had a box office smash its opening weekend, and they seemed excited about it those first few weeks. But the following months after the films release, those talks subsided, with most of the attention being focused on Sam Raimi‘s Army Of Darkness 2.
Now in a new interview with Gorosito.TV, Sayagues says they have been off the project for months, and cannot confirm of the producers of the film have intentions with moving forward with a sequel.
