Robert Rodriguez Sets Up His Fantasy Adventure ‘Fire & Ice’ At Sony Pictures

The live-action remake of the 1983 animated fantasy-adventure Fire & Ice that filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has been developing for years has finally found a home at Sony Pictures, according to Mike Fleming Jr. at Deadline.

Rodriguez will direct the film based upon his own screenplay and the production company Bold Films, which in the past has brought us such features as Drive and Nightcrawler, will take an important role behind the scenes.

Robert Rodriguez Says Frank Frazetta Movie ‘Fire and Ice’ Next After ‘Machete Kills,’ ‘Sin City 2’

Robert Rodriguez is feeling pretty productive lately—and it’s a good thing, too, because multiple projects that he’s been developing for a while now and/or waiting for all who are involved in said projects’ schedules to open up are finally ready to get moving.

It begins with Machete Kills, the sequel to 2010’s Machete that sees Danny Trejo returning as the vengeful ex-Federale (and possibly joined by Mel Gibson), followed by Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the long-awaited follow-up to 2005’s Sin City—both of which Rodriguez announced recently would film this summer.

Now Rodriguez has also confirmed that after those two movies are done, he’ll next do Fire and Ice, the animated project that he’s been developing that’s a remake of the 1983 Frank Frazetta and Ralph Bakshi movie of the same name, inspired, of course, by Frazetta’s iconic art works.

SDCC: Robert Rodriguez To Open Frank Frazetta Museum; Remaking ‘Fire and Ice’

Robert Rodriguez is a busy man. He started a new production company and is hard at work on scripts for Machete 2 and Sin City 2 along with a handful of other projects [Read SDCC 2011: Robert Rodriguez Going Ahead With “˜Sin City’, “˜Machete’ Sequels via Quick Draw]. At San Diego Comic-Con 2011 last week the filmmaker debuted a bevy of original Frank Frazetta paintings to celebrate the upcoming launch of a new museum curated by Rodriguez featuring the master of fantasy art’s works from Rodriguez’s personal collection. The museum will of course be located in Austin, Texas.
