Blend Of Doom: Determining The Ultimate Geek Movies Of All Time

This week, the podcast Social Blend, which I co-host with Jay Fowler aka SilentJay74, was invaded by the Geeks of Doom! Empress Eve and Tched were considerate enough to join us in a discussion focusing on what we believe to be The Ultimate Geek Movies of All Time.
Quite frequently, you will find some blogs try to come up with some attempt at a “Top 10” list of best movies within any given subject area, but for this special edition of Social Blend, we decided to simply discuss, debate, and squabble about (and in some cases, ridicule) the movies we collectively believe should be on every geek’s DVD shelf.
Aside from the obvious selections from the dominions of Star Wars and Star Trek, we had a look at all kinds of movies from a wide range of genres and categories — from movies based on comics, to science fiction, to music-based films, to horror and beyond.

The Social Blend (of Doom) Podcast
Those of you with ears should venture over to Social Blend — the podcast about social media sites like Mixx.com and other news headlines worth your valuable time — for a special Geeks of Doom episode.
I joined hosts Greg Davies (cGt2099) and Jay Fowler (SilentJay74) to chat about what a Spider-Man film reboot would entail as well as plenty of other nonsensical geek-related news.
It was so much fun we’re already plotting dates for a Social Blend of Doom II.

Holiday Geek Gift Guide ’09: Specialty Christmas Gift Suggestions
|
 |

Every year, we scatter looking for the best gifts and the best prices to complete our holiday shopping needs as soon as humanly possible. For some strange reason, many people still actually head out into the chaos that is the holiday shopping season, though it’s obvious that just hanging out at home is so insanely better, even if you have to pay a little more. Many sites online like to do their own holiday gift guides each year to help you find what you may be looking for, and we at Geeks of Doom are no different. Our own Tom Cheredar recently put together a fantastic guide for those of you looking for the best Wii sports accessories, and if you stay tuned, we will have a large gift guide with all of 2009’s best movies, games, and other goodies that translate into the best gifts!
Until that guide is complete, here is yet another to tide you over. This is a guide that really digs to the core for some of the best gifts out there for the true geek in all of us. The gifts in this guide come from perhaps the best website on the planet for strange and wonderful goodies, ThinkGeek. It includes gadgets, toys, apparel, and just pure geeky fun items; with price tags varying from cheap to hefty, but most things are pretty affordable. Most of you have probably heard of the site, and if you’re like me, you want to move in with them and play with everything they have…always…for ever and ever and ever. If you haven’t heard of them, you will definitely enjoy this introduction, but be warned: you WILL want everything.
Click on over to check out the list. We’ve included just a handful of our favorite geek-related gifts. If nothing here suits you, you can head to their site where you can find a whole lot more stuff from movies and also non-movie-related stuff that’s all equally fantastic. We have a few images here, but all gift ideas have plenty of images at their source and sometimes a video to show off what it does.

For the Horde! Geeks of Doom Style

Unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere in Ashenvale for the past 3 months chances are you’ve been noticing how big Wraith of the Lich King has been for World of Warcraft. With a retooling of the game in the near future and the addition of achievements, new raids to come and what seems to be a never ending stream of pwnage, its no wonder so many old fans and noobs alike are picking this game out and drawing battle lines for the never ending struggle between the Alliance and the Horde.
Well Lok’ Tar! My friends, because two members of the Geeks of Doom Warcraft Guild (lovingly referred to as GoDs), along with some very cool Horde players, took one home for the Horde with the slayings of all four main leaders of the so called ‘Alliance’! So first and foremost, congrats to Doomhammre and Tarsonus (yeah, me) on their Epic Black Bear Mounts. Just remember, Mr. Wolfcastle from Simpson’s said it best. “Zee goggles. Dey do Nothing!!”.
Now to inform on how we did our mass slaying all in one night. First we stormed the boat in Darkshore to gain our way to Exodar, home to the otherworldly Draenei. We charged in with lightning speed as we weaved our way past guards and right onto the pedestal where Prophet Velen stood. It was a short fight this one, as the alliance have all but forsaken Exodar and Darnassius. After we gave him the final farewell, it was back out, and on the boat to the home of the Night elves. The next on our ‘Death List Four’ was High priestess Tyrande Whisperwind. She too was a piece of cake.

Happy Holidays Readers of Doom,
Wow! This has been an amazing year for Geeks of Doom. Together, our team of selfless contributors has helped us publish over 1,750 articles this year — reviews, features, news items, and opinion pieces from every corner of the geeky spectrum.
Our team of contributors has grown exponentially. So many AWESOME people have decided to freely pitch-in and help make Geeks of Doom what it is. We’re nothing without our contributors and you all help create a fresh and interesting place for geeks like us to hang out and opine off a cliff. Thank you, guys and gals of DOOM! I mean it. THANK YOU!
We made a lot of great new friends in the film blogger community as well. Thank you all for your friendship and all the help along the way: David, Devindra, Adam, Peter, Alex, Kelvin, Vic, Neil, Mike, Wil (please forgive me if I left someone out. I’m still rockin’ a pretty big Francis Ford Coppola wine hangover). You each rule mightily in your own way. Thanks for being both friends and examples to us. Every day is a learning experience and you all make learning waaay more fun then school ever did.
