‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Trailer: The World Goes Mad and Cars Blow Up Good
  |

Today, Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for next summer’s highly-anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road, and just in time for Christmas too. Ah Warners, but I didn’t get you anything.

Watch the new trailer here below.

Over the Summer, the George Miller-directed sequel stormed San Diego Comic-Con and unleashed the first footage and posters. The results nearly shattered the Internet that wonderful July day. The studio later released an edited version of the Comic-Con sizzle reel that has been viewed over twelve million times on YouTube. I was responsible for perhaps a quarter of that amount.

Shout! Factory To Release ‘UHF,’ ‘Escape From New York,’ ‘Mad Max,’ and More On Blu-ray
  |

A week ago I wrote a retrospective article on the 25th anniversary of “Weird Al” Yankovic‘s supremely silly cult classic UHF and ended it with these words:

The movie may one day see a release on Blu-ray and now that Yankovic’s career is hotter than ever thanks to the success of his latest album Mandatory Fun it wouldn’t be inconceivable for a company like Shout! Factory to distribute an HD edition.

I automatically assumed at the time that Shout! would pick up the license to release UHF on Blu-ray because it’s an MGM title and they typically distribute that studio’s lesser-loved catalog entries. Plus this year would be the most appropriate time for a UHF Blu because the movie celebrates its silver anniversary in 2014 and anniversaries always look good on a Blu-ray/DVD cover. But I had no idea that when Shout! announced its upcoming home video release slate over the weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con they would be including a new 25th anniversary edition of UHF among some of their better-known titles.

SDCC 2014: ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Panel
  |

Mad Max, the Australian 1979 cult film which became one of the most original, dystopian, and riveting action pictures of all time, spawning a franchise and making its original titualar character Mel Gibson a superstar, is being rebooted. Hall H in today’s Warner Brothers panel proceedings gave the details of Mad Max: Fury Road at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con in sunny San Diego, California.

Moderated by the witty Chris Hardwick and showcasing one George Miller, who directed not only the original film but is also handling the reboot from the directorial chair, there was a wonderful poignancy to their chat, especially when Miller let slip that this was his very first Comic-Con appearance. Miller himself gave us a backstory on the original film and that he was spellbound that he was actually making a new version of the franchise in 2014.
