A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (A Song of Ice and Fire)
Hardcover | Kindle Edition | Audible
Written by George R.R. Martin
Illustrated by Gary Gianni
Bantam Press
Release Date: October 6th, 2015

Dunk was a squire turned knight 100 years before the events in A Game of Thrones. He had just buried his hedge knight before striking out to seek his fortune (or at least a steady roof and meal). He encounters Egg, a weird little bald boy who pushes to become his squire. After naming himself Ser Duncan the Tall (rumored to be related to Brienne of Tarth), they head to a tourney at Ashford Castle, where Dunk has one shot to win or lose his armor, thus ending his short, knightly career. The tourney has competitions between such names as Targaryen, Tully, Lannister, and Baratheon. How could he possibly compete? To top off everything, he gets himself in serious hot water for being chivalrous, plus Egg has a giant secret. And that is just the beginning of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms by George R.R. Martin.

More below (a few spoilers if you haven’t read yet and plan to).

Weird Al Takes On ‘Game Of Thrones’ Theme Song At The Emmys (Video)
  |  @   |

Weird Al Yankovic performed at tonight’s Emmy Awards where he took on several popular television theme songs, one of which was Game Of Thrones. The parody master created lyrics for the popular HBO series, adding in parts about poison wine, paying attention to the introductory maps, and the need for author George R.R. Martin — whose A Song Of Ice and Fire novels are the basis for the TV show — to type faster.

SNL‘s Andy Samberg joined Yankovic on stage dressed as King Joffrey, but he eventually made his way into the audience where Martin was seated, handing him an old-fashioned typewriter as Yankovic and his background singers implored the writer to type faster.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Fan Art Tackles Powerful ‘A Storm of Swords’ Battle
  |  @   |

Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! Read no further if you watch the HBO series Game of Thrones but have not yet read the books. One of the greatest chapters from George R.R. Martin’s A Storm Of Swords has been rendered into sequential art, but the scene probably won’t be seen on the television series until Season 4. I will not be held responsible if you fail to heed my warning!

There, with that out of the way, let me say this A Storm of Swords fan art, by comic artist Jeff McComsey, is amazingly well done. Detailing the duel between Oberyn Martell, Prince of Dorne, called the Red Viper, and Gregor Clegane, nicknamed the Mountain because of his gargantuan size….it appears to be a very uneven fight from the start. I won’t get into too many details but the point is that Prince Oberyn volunteered to fight this massive warrior for personal reasons. Though both of these men are champions for another, they enter the battlefield with the express intention of killing their opponent in this trial by arms.
