A live-action movie adaptation of Ghost in the Shell is on the way, as you may have heard, and excitement levels vary from person to person after the controversial casting of Scarlett Johansson in the lead role.
But anyone who’s a fan of movies—no matter what their thoughts on this movie happen to be—appreciates the use of practical effects, and Ghost in the Shell has some incredible ones. Mythbusters star Adam Savage and his Tested YouTube channel paid a visit to the special effects masters over at Weta Workshop recently, where he was shown some of the work they created for Ghost in the Shell. More specifically, the robot geisha. A great deal of work went into creating them, and there’s a phenomenal amount of detail to appreciate. Sure, Ghost in the Shell may be wrapped up in a whitewashing controversy, but Rupert Sanders‘ adaptation of the popular manga and anime starring Scarlett Johansson does look good visually. The film takes place in a highly technological futuristic setting, with a special-operations task-force made up of former military officers and police detectives assembled to act as a counter-terrorism force against corrupt officials, companies, and cyber-criminals.
Now Paramount has released the new TV spot that will appear during the Super Bowl this Sunday. Check it out below.
Despite the current whitewashing controversy that surrounds Ghost in the Shell, eager fans are very anxious to see if the film can justify the casting, and break the long-running reputation that live-action adaptations of popular animes are always bad. Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for the live-action adaptation of this fan-favorite manga and anime. Starring Scarlett Johansson as Major, the film is set in a futuristic Tokyo, where a security force is tasked with stopping a hacking extremist from destroying a highly advanced cybernetic technology corporation.
