The writing team of Art Baltazar and Franco have been around for a while always turn out some great stuff. But, when you throw newcomer Chris “Zod” Smits into the mix, the fun really heats up!! They have more going on in one single issue of a comic than some titles have in their entire run. This issue is PACKED with fun and adventuresome characters that are true to both the spirit of the book and who they “really” are. They’ve managed to find a logical way to combine THREE companies’ characters into one series. You’ve got everybody from Action Cat to Captain Action to Ghost to X, and they’ve ALL got something to do and a reason for being there. Besides being really entertaining, this comic is an honest to God page turner!! Fun Fact: Chris “Zod” Smits is the world’s WORST player of Scramble with Friends.

Comic Review: Ghost #1 (2013)

Ghost #1
Volume 4
Written by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Chris Sebela
Penciled by Ryan Sook
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: December 17, 2013
Cover Price: $2.99

Although I’ve long been aware of the character, this is the first Ghost story (heh) I’ve ever read. And it’s a good one.

Written by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Chris Sebela, and penciled by the stellar Ryan Sook, Ghost #1 introduces the character to new readers in a way that won’t bore long-time ones.

Ghost’s (aka Elisa Cameron) mission is to purge demons from their human hosts, and then dispense with them. Unfortunately, this means that the human hosts also perish, a fact which while troubling for Elisa, was also something she could work through. Until now.

Music Review: Ghost B.C. ‘If You Have Ghost’ EP

If You Have Ghost
CD | MP3 | Vinyl
Produced by Dave Grohl
Universal Republic
Released November 19, 2013

One of Sweden’s finest current musical exports, Ghost (known as Ghost B.C. in the U.S.), has a new EP out If You Have Ghost that follows up on the band’s sophomore album Infestissumam which was released earlier this year.

The 5-song EP, produced by Dave Grohl, continues to expand on the eerie, satanic synth-driven metal sound which has propelled Ghost to fame since their debut back in 2010. Here, Ghost tackles four covers giving them all their unique musical approach and sound, and then concludes with a live version of “Secular Haze”. Two of the covers were available via different Infestissumam releases, though it is nice to have them in one collection.

Ghost #1
Written by Kelly Sue DeConnick
Art by Phil Noto
Letters by Richard Starkings and Comicraft
Covers by Phil Noto & Alex Ross
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: October 24, 2012
Cover Price: $2.99

Kelly Sue DeConnick is, needless to say, a fantastic writer. I just don’t know if Ghost was right for her. You’d think it would be a no-brainer. A woman who’s great at writing strong female leads should be the perfect fit, right? Unfortunately, she doesn’t quite hit the mark with this issue.

First off, for a first issue, it’s not really a great jumping on point. It feels like you’re coming in during the middle of a story. Beyond that, the dialogue is entertaining and the characters are fun. I just wish it was more of an introduction than it is.
