Watch Out For That First Step – It’s Groundhog Day!
  |  @   |

It’s Groundhog Day here in the United States, where supposedly if a groundhog sees its shadow on this day, it means six more weeks of Winter; no shadow means an early Spring. While tons of people today are buzzing about the predicted early Spring — courtesy of the most famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, who did not see his shadow — I love how there are loads of people wishing actor Stephen Tobolowsky a Happy Groundhog Day via his Twitter page.

Tobolowsky starred as Ned Ryerson in the 1993 comedy Groundhog Day, which had Bill Murray as meteorologist Phil Connors, who begrudgingly goes to Punxsutawney, PA, to cover the Groundhog Day festivities, as he does every year. When a blizzard hits the town, Phil gets stuck there overnight and wakes up the next morning to discover that it’s February 2 all over again. This then happens every day, with Phil reliving the events of February 2. Thanks to the film, “Groundhog Day” has become associated with replaying the same events over and over again.

Geek Art: 38 Days of Groundhog Day; Bill Murray Animated Gif
  |  @   |

At the beginning of the week, artist Derek Eads posted that he’d be doing an entire week of Bill Murray-themed artwork this week.

Kicking off said event, Eads posted an animated gif of illustrations of the characters the actor has played in his films. See the animated gif here below — can you figure out who each character is?

Continuing the Murray-a-thon, Eads created 38 Days of Groundhog Day, a chart with illustrations of every day that was shown in the film Groundhog Day. (That’s the chart here at right; click for larger, full view.)

Visit Eads’ site for more Murray goodness, as well as his other artwork, some of which is available for purchase.

We’ve been hearing things like this for a while now, so it is a little difficult to embrace this quote with open arms, but nonetheless: Ghostbusters writer and original star Harold Ramis sat down and had a little chat with Heeb, where he discuss everything from Animal House to Groundhog Day to the status of a one Ghostbusters 3.

We’ve heard rumors of a new younger and prettier cast replacing the originals. We’ve heard Ramis and Dan Aykroyd make multiple claims that the movie would be coming soon and that almost the entire cast would be back, including Ramis, Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson (Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, and Rick Moranis are unknowns). And now comes word from Ramis that the film will in fact be shooting in he Summer of 2010 and will be released sometime in 2011.
