  |  @   |

Lawless
Directed by John Hillcoat
Written by Nick Cave
Starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Guy Pearce
The Weinstein Company
Rated R | 115 Minutes
Release Date: August 29, 2012

Directed by John Hillcoat (The Road) and based on Matt Bondurant‘s 2008 novel The Wettest County in the World, Lawless follows the legendary exploits of the Bondurant brothers in Prohibition-era Franklin County, Virginia, who made a living by bootlegging Moonshine across county lines and wheelin’ and dealin’ with Chicago mobsters.

Adapted into a screenplay by Nick Cave (of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) Lawless stars Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, and Jason Clarke as Jack, Forrest, and Howard Bondurant, respectively, rebellious good old boys with a knack for moving white lightning through the Appalachian Mountains.

Business is good until Special Deputy Charlie Rakes (Guy Pearce), a particularly brutal, prideful gentleman from Chicago, shows up on behalf of the District Attorney. Rakes wants a cut of the profits made by Franklin’s legendary bootleggers. To paraphrase the immortal Hall and Oates, the Bondurants can’t go for that (no can do). It’s North vs. South all over again as the Virginian outlaws battle the big-city scumbag who threatens their way of life.

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark
Netflix Streaming
DVD | Blu-ray
Directed by Troy Nixey
Starring Bailee Madison, Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce, Jack Thompson, Alan Dale, Julia Blake, Garry McDonald
FilmDistrict
Originally Released: August 26, 2011

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark is a fun horror flick that appropriates heavily from classic horror, fairy tales, and some of producer Guillermo del Toro‘s own films as well. While del Toro handles production and writing duties, direction is capably handled by Troy Nixey in his debut. Connected with some great performances, excellent monster effects, and some outstanding set design and lighting effects, this is a movie well worth checking out.

Effectively a remake of the 1973 TV movie of the same name, Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark explores the line that marks the division between fairy tales and horror stories. The story follows young girl Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison) as she relocates to live with her father, dealing with the difficulty of being a small child in a broken family.

  |  @   |

There’s a lot of speculation as to what the plot for Iron Man 3 could be. It is believed that the film could be based on the Extremis storyline, which centers on a technologically based virus that could turn any normal human being into tech-based super soldiers.

No doubt there will be some sort of confirmation when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige takes the Hall H center stage at the San Diego Comic-Con later this month. But before we hear from Feige or get a confirmation of a synopsis, we have a piece of concept art from the movie that may confirm the Extremis storyline. Check it out below.

Revealed: What Did David Say To The Engineer In ‘Prometheus’?
  |  @   |

Warning: Obviously, this post contains spoilers.

Ridley Scott‘s science-fiction film Prometheus has polarized critics and audiences with its complexity, refusing to provide answers and explanations to the film’s numerous mysteries and burning questions.

One such question is what exactly did David (Michael Fassbender) say to the Engineer to get him so riled up? Did he misspeak? Did he have ulterior motives in translating for Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) or did he communicate Weyland’s commands accurately? With no subtitles provided, it’s impossible to know what David said in that creepy ancient language – or it was impossible, until now.

Stu Holmes of The Bioscopist interviewed Dr. Anil Biltoo of the SOAS Language Centre in London, who served as the Linguist Teacher on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.
