Artist Profile: Kristin “Foxy” Allen
  |  @   |

Welcome to my second spotlight on nerdy artists of whom you may (or may not) have heard. It is my pleasure to be able to show off some of the amazing folks out there who create one of a kind pieces that anyone can own. Some of them are established in the art world, some are struggling or just getting started. Whatever their position in the industry, they all have one thing in common: they love their craft. I hope to bring you more of these in the future, but for now you can definitely get to know our latest victim, er I mean, artist.

I first heard about this talented young lady from my friend Lisa (a collector of all things Catwoman). After checking out Kristin Allen‘s available art, I finally commissioned a Mystique from her. I requested risque and boy, was it! Let’s just say that she certainly lives up to her FoxyArt name. Her linework is excellent, but what amazes me most is the level of detail she puts into some of the background and trim work. If you have ever tried to purchase an original piece from an established artist, then you know how expensive that it can be. Not so with Ms. Allen, as she offers some really great deals at some really great prices. All of the necessary links are below if you decide to pick up an original piece for yourself; there are also several signed prints of previous works available on her site. Get them while you can, folks. This lady is going places quickly! (Literally, she’s at conventions everywhere.)

Included for your viewing pleasure is a cover that she did for Hack/Slash, a wonderful Buffy/Selene (from Underworld) original, and a piece she did for a pinup card set. And I’m also showing off two commissioned pieces she did for my friend: one is Catwoman with Dexstarr (and my friend’s kitties, Pooka and Ryoko) and a Rose Red from Fables. You can see the full-sized commission pieces right after the interview! Enjoy the show…

Covers by Tim Seeley & Allen Passalaqua and Ben Templesmith
Image Comics
Release Date: February 29, 2012

I’ve been a Cassie Hack fan for quite some time, but Hack/Slash #13 is the first time I have had the chance to review the comic. I have long been impressed with Tim Seeley‘s writing and the way he manages to make every comic fun from start to finish. This issue was no exception, I thoroughly enjoyed the story (though I wish there was more Vlad in this one).

Kicking off a comic with velociraptors is an awesome way to begin a story. Closer interaction with them, however, changes more than one character’s opinion of them. I even enjoyed the Jurassic Park movie reference. I mean, really…who doesn’t love raptors?
